mooster 1
This is the time of year when the young bunnies are making their presence known. Burrows cannot always be seen because of all the lovely new greenery, so now is when i do my homework and take a walk on all those footpaths across the country and have a good old mooch taking in the summer smells and sights! Then i mark any new warrens or pockets of bunny activity. Detective work starts next, speak to anyone driving a tractor and find out who owns that bunny infested field! "can i assist in collecting the unwanted rabbits as they are ruining your fields" Did this today after spotting a lovely warren in a field in Devon by by the sea. I stopped to let a tractor pass me in a narrow lane, which was followed by a land rover, asked the driver who owned the land,he directed me to a farm nearby. I Found the old farmer who said yes to everything! "Let your ferrets have a good run around boy...I own all the land around here!" Nearly kissed the old bugger!!! I can't wait to get started after the summer as I live in a town and this is silent beautiful countryside by the sea...heaven. Just thought I would share this as people often ask about seeking permission etc. Some farmers are miserable but some are happy to let you roam and hunt with your ferrets so keep trying ..."if you don't ask,you dont get.! as my old dad used to say. Many farmers are keen to keep country sports alive.Just be polite and honest about what you will be doing. Good Hunting. Mooster Quote Link to post
