matt_hooks 188
The firearms licencing staff sometimes don't understand that there is a difference between a .22LR and a .22WMR. They don't understand that they are both rimfire cartridges. Perhaps the police should have a training course on ammunition and firearms before they take on the role, a bit like DSC. I'm sure BASC would be pleased to provide a suitable syllabus! 1 Quote Link to post
Simonrees 45
I asked this very question when I received my FAC back it just says.22 on mine, So I assumed maybe I could choose any .22 I wanted. Wrong!! I spoke to the Firearms dept and they clarified it for me, basically I can only have a .22lr if I want a WMR then they class that as a seperate "caliber" and I would need to apply for a variation. when i applied i just put in for 22rf and it came back with 22rf i asked the question and was told as long as i purchased a 22rf everything was ok, that was a long while ago mind, so i think its a case of mistakes and missinterpritation by the individual firearms depts, again Yes I agree, I think a lot of it is the fact that the staff who type these things up genuinely don't understand the differences in case types and calibers. I'm pretty certain that the home office guidlines stipulate only that the Calibers should be listed "but I might be wrong". After all a .22Lr, .22WMF, .22CF are all very different and as far as South Wales Police are concerned need to be applied for seperately. Edited March 15, 2012 by Simonrees Quote Link to post
