anyone using Hid lamps???

They're not really ideal for the "on again, off again" use they tend to get when lamping. The bulbs take a short time to warm up when you turn them on, and constant on and off shortens the bulb life and can damage the ballast on the battery. They're great for bikes and cars, but not so good on top of a gun.

Also, the bulbs run extremely hot, and so can be very fragile, which is not good when mounted on top of a recoiling rifle.

The LED lamps are better. Virtually unbreakable, bright as you like and a long battery run time.

Are you talking from experience, or heresay? As the literature on these lamps state that they are cold to the touch.

i have been reading up on the conversions of the lightforce lamps,an also found a few other spot lights suitable for lamping.the start up on the new lights seems to be almost instant, they come on straight away, but just take a few seconds to reach full power. would still like to get someones view thats has used one for lamping

Hi.I have one, a 170.Used it a few times still not sure if its for me though. We normaly use a 240 blitz with no filter which is good for fox out to 300 plus yards. All down to your scope mainly.I wouldn't say the light is better because its a differant light, blue ish sort of.Like those headlights on some new cars that blind you from behind !!!.On and off not realy an issue because it only takes a few seconds which can be handy sometimes.

All in all,Its a very good lamp but.worth the price tag,not sure.will i keep it ?.Don't know......Make me an offer lol.

cheers mark...

The outside of the lamp is cold, but the internals are seriously hot, and this makes them very fragile.

For bunny bashing with a gun, I'd say the major stumbling block is the warm up time. If I'm lamping for rabbits I need instant full power, not a few seconds warm up.

Hi I have a Xenon hand held spotlight made by Speaker in the US which runs from the cigaretter lighter socket in my Discovery. It is the best lamp I have ever used. It comes on after about 1/8 of a second and the light it throws out beats the pants off halogen. Xenon gives a white almost daylight colour whereas halogen looks brown in comparison. It shows the true colour of animals and lights up the ground like a film set. I haven't measured the range but it is considerably more than anything else I've used. It is much heavier than the any of the lightforce lamps and it cost £250 plus shipping, which most of you will think is mental for a lamp but the difference between Xenon and halogen is night and day (pun intended) and it totally transforms your night shooting outings.

Cheers

Duncan
