mickmck 716
took my bird out today with my mate and his fhh i got a male flys at 1-5 , gets to the wood where we let them go , mates female darting about here and there . my male( bob) follows on for about 100 yards then starts to get a bit slugish , so we plod on my mates bird having a pop at a phesy and bob just looking at the floor all the time , so i get bob down to me glove and he just not interested at all , so we decide to go , now on the way back we stopped at a little strip wood just for a quick look and see if bobs any better. mate throws his bird up and i let bob off , bob just hit the deck wings spread and lay there not even trying to move so i pick him up and he was really struggling to stay on me glove , i could feel all his strength drain from his body his head was just wobbling , so we rushed him home and gave him a shot of gluecose and he seems ok now , but i really thought he was gonna croke it never seen a bird nearly pass out like that , does any one have any idea what it could have been ??? jasper65 6
any chance he was low/light? with this cold weather we're having now they need to be up in condition with a few more reserves. a bird that is already well down in condition can litteraly go low while you look at it expecially when its burning more calories while flying. think I would give him some food thats easy to digest little and often with some Vit supplement and extra calcium, let him put his crop over between feeds to avoid sour crop. CCF is great in bringing birds round from the brink which are poorly or in need of some extra care. he could well be fitting too? may well be a trip to the vets mate if he's not showing any signs of getting better Quote Link to post

Mick1212 has the right idea bringing him in doors to keep him warm until his condition goes up and he perks up a bit, even if you stand him in his carrying box for the evening somehwere warm in the house. remove all the castings or should I say basically skin everything when feeding, hopefully he will take food himself if not its a crop tube job with some blended meat and vitamins. let him put it over before giving him some more, don't crop him out just little and often until he starts to put his food over at the normal rate, if he is low his whole digestive system will have slowed down and you basically need to kickstart it again slowly. I have cropped tubed birds in the past with blended supplemented skimmed chicks. also brought them back with just CCF <Critical Care Formula> crop tubed, its cracking stuff with everything the bird will need to aid its recovery. if he is pulling himself make sure the food is well lactated or wet, the fluids will help him to digest it easier. Hope it helps a bit mate and good luck with him . Jasp Quote Link to post
