Recommended Posts

ok here we go i,ve got a batch of chooks down the allotment had them for about 6 months now [well this batch anyway]there,s 4 buff orpingtons 2 light sussex 2 marans 3 welsummers and 2 leghornall apart for the orpingtons all are under 12 month old the orpingtons are about 15/16 month old.

all use the same run about 40ft long x 20ft wide x 6ft high and also use the same coop 14ft long x8ft wide 7ft high with nest box,s perches all at the same height to stop fighting for highest perching .

all have been getting along no probs at all till this week .

12 weeks ago i hatched 2 wyndot chicks in the incubator and reared them at home in the shed [2 lovely looking birds] any now tuesday this week i decided to take them down the allotment and put them in with the rest.

put them in the run and stayed for apprx a hour watching them for bullying all was ok the odd pexk from one of the orpies but that was it they were eating and drinking ok when i left went down the next day about lunch time and as usual the girls were all at the end of the run as soon as i opened the allotment gate apart from the new 2 i thought they would have been in the coop so fed and watered the run went into the coop to check for eggs and found the new ones dead on the floor .

they were just about oven ready with not hardly a feather left on them and full of peck marks.

never had this before and was just wondering if anyone here has had/heard of it
