Lea 3
has anyone got a shetland pony for sale or wants to loan out, or know of anyone who has? its for my 3 yr daughter so will have to be 100% bombproof and be able to be ridden You'd be better off with a nice little welshie or something. Much nicer than a shetland and more biddable. Nice shetlands are like gold dust
Guest john the baptist
I agree with lea, get a section a. You will pick one up from the auctions for next to nothing. Good luck, john
countrymaid 2
Yes i also aggree, id get a nice little section A. I dont think ive ever known a decent shetland, my vet swears a whole tube of sedalin dosent always knock out a bad tempered shetland.
Guest WILF
Agree with all the above, word of caution..young section A can be a bit jumpy. IMHO, even though I have horses, you would be much better to take her to a local riding school and let her have a go round on the oldest, most bombproof pony that they have a couple of times a week......thats what I used to do when my kids were real tiddlers
Guest lambrini
I think all of the above advice is sound, look for an aged welsh A, shetlands are shits!
jim06 0
I have a miniature shetland 34inches, he is a great little pony. My 3 year old daughter messes about with him and rides him and he is a kind and gentle as they come. Have you looked on the adtrader website there are a few for loan and sale on there, but as people have already stated alot of them can be little sods !! All the best
andy_duell 1
thanks for all your replys my daughter is only 3 and most riding schools in our area dont start riding lessons until they are 4/5 so no good, i will keep my eye out for a section A aswell as a shetland just thought shetland straight away because of the size really. if you think of any more advise please post it thankx again ( andy_duell's mrs )
Guest SJM
What a load of cobblers Shetlands are great if you just know how to handle them. You have to be firm and consistent with them. I got a gelding given to me for free cos the guy reckoned he couldnt do anything with it, it was barging, kicking, biting people etc. When he brought it to me (also free cos he was so desperate to get shot of it ) he opened the trailer door and jumped back, it was a sight to behold a 6 ft odd grown man afraid of a little shetland pony I broke that pony to drive and used him for kids pony rides, made a good few quid out of him when I sold him on. He was a brilliant pony, just needed a firm hand, someone who wasnt going to stand for any of his nonsense. They can be very affectionate ponies and very hardy workers and good doers if you have the patience to work with them
