when barley fields get croped

hi all got my air rifle permision a few months ago and there are a few birds about in the trees but can get a shot at them and been talking to the farmer and he was saying he will be cutting one of the barley fields soon so sould all the birds come down feed do you shoot more on your permison when the fields get cutt also will the birds land the day it gets cutt or will the wait abit

Hi Mate, yes they should drop in and feed, especially if it's the first crop to be cut in the area. If the Farmer has his combine set up well there won't be much spilt grain for them to mop up so you'll have to keep an eye out and be quick.

 

Are there any patches of un cut corn that are flattened? pigeons usually make a bit of a bee line for these as it's easy pickings with the corn ears at beak level.

 

Keep watching and they should eventually give the game away as to where they are feeding!
