bad habit's

Recommended Posts

I am bring on a pup of 5 months, i also have a 5 year old lurcher who i got 2 years ago & the guy who had her used her souly on fox & i took her in as she had been terorrising his terriers, witch cost a lot of cash,

so it was a case of if i didn't take her she would'nt have lasted long, had some problems with her at first,

she got to used to hunting up on her own, this i didn't mind as i like that in a dog during the day, the problem arrose our fist lamping trip, being an expirenced dog i got her a half decent 25yd slip on a rabbit she nearly had it before it hit the hedge insted of comming back to me she started hunting up on her own, this has now been sorted to an extent.

as i have a football park out my back door i get to spend quality time alone with the pup training her & she's coming on great, the problem i'm having is when i take all three for a walk i find she's learning bad habbit's from my other two,as my lurcher likes to practise coursing on my springer running up & grabing him by the throat or arse the only way to stop her from doing this is to find a plastic bottle then she starts rabbit practise droping the bottle in the middle of a field doing a wide circle & picking it up, this goes on for half an hour or more sometimes, he puts up with it because he's used to it, but now my pup has seen this & is constatly attached to his floppy lugs, it annoy's me as hes a great little bushing dog but just dosen't get piece to get on with it. his only escape is in the bushes or the water where he prefers to be anyway.

i was just wondering if there's anything i can do about this before it's to late.

cheers in advance, weekye :hmm:

Obviously ye have to go to the 'root' of the problem, mate. That means sorting out the older Dog.

Best way to stop a Dog doing anything ye don't want it doing is to train it in Basic Obediance. If it'll Sit / Down / Stay on command? Tell it to as soon as it starts f*cking about. It should then soon find it's more fun to run about Not doing one thing than sit about doing absolutely nothing what so ever. 'Puppy Training Classes' for you then!

If ye really genuinely can't reach a class (I've been in that situation, so I know it really can happen :() then ye best bet may be a Long Line and a good old fashioned jerk and " Leave It!!! ". I find most Dogs pick up a stern 'Leave It!' command better than any other. I don't know why. But then I'm no kind of expert in such matters.

Great thing is, no way can ye just flop out and buy a Zap collar and start blowing the Dogs head off in ye frustration. Do that and the victim Dog will cop a jolt too. Then ye really would be heading for hell in a rotting handcart, wouldn't ye?

Back to the root and back with it to Basics. My idea anyway.

i have the same problem it starts before i even get them out the kennel.

my lurcher bitch starts shaking my springer by the leg or ears as they

are kenneled together.then the rest of the troop join in and its not as if hes soft

hes the oldest and most dominant dogbut just seems to except this ive tried

giving them a slap but doesent do any good. thats the only problem ihave

with my dogs must be a spaniel thing

My lurcher was always doing the same with the terriers or the spaniels. I just kept him on a lead every time he pissed about he got put on the lead. Now when I walk the dogs he stays right at my heel apart from when he goes to do his buissness. An if he pisses about I just put him on a lead he soon learned. (Alcatheen pipe also works wonders.)

this is what i've been doing lately and it seems to be working, it's more the pup is the problem now.

should i just do the same with the pup & lead her when she starts.

thanks for all the replies. :clapper:
