Im posting this one in the general section, cause we didn't get a thing... LOL I have a new permission not 5 minutes from my house, right now its 400 acres of corn and bean farm, it keeps getting larger everytime I go back to talk with the farmer and he tells me about another property he farms just up the road or wherever and so Ive been waiting for the fields to dry up a little bit and got out yesterday to hunt this new property for the first time. The farmer came up to the car when i was getting my shovels out and turning the collar on. He wants to talk, and give me new permissions so I politely quietly listen to the old fella , just itching to get to getting. As this place is so close to home I didnt bother boxing Rita up , instead I had her on a line in the back seat , well Rita was pretty excited to get to getting too, she took a piss in the back seat! Major GRRR! but this is my first time out and the farmer is watching , he doesnt know whats gone on in the car, I lift the seat cover off the seat so it wouldnt soak thru and close the door and drop Rita and she is off like grease lightning deaf as a post. MORE GRRRRR! she crosses the road and gets into the neighbors fenceline . I finally round her up , feeling like a dumbass the whole time. I move her towards where I had wanted to start with the wind blowing in our face , she catches scent and is in high gear into the dense scrub and disappears from sight, no problem this time, she is heading away from the road I figure I will catch up to her in just a minute. Well the wind gets to whipping and all I can hear is brush move , the whole time and Im not sure if its her or the wind .... So I have to go to using my vision alot more and Im picking up my pace and im looking horizon , not whats in front of me..... I totally didnt see the smaller than a garbage can , larger than a fence post sized hole right on the edge of this corn field, about three foot deep I figure, I wipe out completely, shovel and probe going flying thru the air and crash to earth with all the noise of sword fight. I wear my spade on a leash across my back and it goes down in the hole with my right leg and smashes my shin and knee pretty good. My hunting back pack flys over my head and into my face, couples and tie out first then the weight of the pack second. I know nothing is broken but am I super embarrassed and mad at the same time. I looked around, no one was there (the farmer had moved on, Thank God) and I had a good laugh, pulled myself up and went and found Rita and hunted about 40 acres and decided to call it a day, I still had a pissy back seat cover to deal with .... But even a day out like that is better than staying home.
