gravel 63
Hi lads bit the bullet today, as i was pissed of looking on the site and ebay every day thinking im going to get a bargin for a lamp ,then the last minute goes up to about £60 and it is second hand, so i thought f**kit bought a striker 170 varible control 2 filters red & green, a 12 volt 17 amp battery pack and charger £218. i have a lenser p7 for my gun which is a great bit of kit and very well made, but looking on their site the x21 torch looks fantastic £235, i could make my own filters for the torch, as well as buying ir sheet for the nv. Wat do you guys think, have i dropped a Bollock? one thing is piece of mind and any problems with the wiring etc with the lamp , its going straight back to the shop. In a word NO, you haven't dropped any bollock! Lighforce lamps get a bad rep for their wiring but I've owned a 140,170 and two blitz. Yes I had to change switches and rewire them but it's TWO wires, wheres the problem? I don't think any of them went within a year but I can't remember. They have the best tightest beam IMO. I use a Blitz if I've got a lampman, my 140 wasn't quite bright enough and the 170 was hand held which I sold and got another Blitz. There's not a lot in it but the blitz suited my shooting better having the tightest beam. I've been buying led torches and yes they are great with no batteries to carry on the belt BUT they are not THE scope mounted lamp. I've been using a deben max pro scope mounted for the last few years when out alone but I've recently returned an led scope mounted torch and in it's place I too am waiting for a 170 variable striker scope mounted to arrive. It's all down to the individual's requirements but I haven't found an led torch to shoot out to 400yrds safely so at the moment it's Lightforce for me. Once you try it you won't regret it! Haven't I read somewhere those x21's have to much spread because of the number of led's? Edited May 4, 2011 by sako Quote Link to post

sako 23
Glad you are happy with it! Did you buy the lamp with the variable switch on the lamp or on an added wire? Quote Link to post
matt_hooks 188
LED torches are rubbish through filters. They are very short on the red end of the spectrum, and there is virtually no IR emitted, so red/amber filters and IR sheeting will basically reduce the light output to virtually nothing. The halogen/krypton beams are far better for filtered work. Quote Link to post

Hi mate bought the one with the switch on the lamp. I only ask as I've returned a torch and the supplier sais deben are out of stock so I won't get mine for a bit so I'll have to stick to my catapult and NV at the moment. I thought I'd prefer one on the lamp then if it really didn't work I could get one in line at a later date but it sounds like it'll work nicely Quote Link to post

Brilliant!!! I haven't laughed so much for a while!!! I forgot it was another thread I'd been on about the catapult it's an led torch, mind you it's well strong enough to knock something over the head with it. If Im out alone it fits in my pocket or swings off my belt so I can lamp without swinging the gun around, once I spot I switch to NV to shoot. The catapult can be scope mounted but won't be as bright as the lightforce 170. It will pick up eye shine probably 300yrds and for a safe shot out to 200yrds, hence my reason for getting a 170. It is brighter than my old 140 but not sure about a new one as mine was over 15 years old. It's a great torch but not my ideal lamp. ps. Im a complete novice when it comes to NV I've always used a lamp! Quote Link to post
