Nissan Navara Info

Recommended Posts

I noticed today when I selected 4 x 4 that when I reverse one of the wheels locks up, if I reverse to the right its the righthand rear! if its the left then its the left! once I straighten up all seems ok but I get the feeling its the LSD giving me some grief here or is this normal from a Limited slipp diff? at first I thought it was due to a slippery loose surface but it tightens up on dry Tarmac too and even slightly when going forward and swinging in a junction, when the car is in 2WD it is perfect! any info would be appreciated.....

Cheers

Jasper

Friend of mine had something similar, ended up smashing the CV joint( if thats the name for it ).

Try steering straight after changing into and out of 4wd to see if it continues.

When i was in the Army, Stalwarts used to do something similar going round corners so you were taught to accelrate round bends.

Hope its not serious Jasper.

Nice one Nelson for the info :victory:.

I just got this off a 4x4 forum, its sounds good but I never had the same problems with the Pajero which also had a LSD! this is info I managed to find but I'm not sure if this is still the problem:

It is a simple thing called windup witch happens when in 4 wheel drive, basicly when you turn one wheel tries to go faster than the other (as it has further to travel) but because of difflock it cant there for it "locks up"!

Basicly dont use 4 wheel drive unless on a slippy surface!!!!

Basically what it means is that when you have been in 4WD and have finished with the nice slippy muddy bits, you then need to find a piece of ground that you can get your wheels on to (one side at a time) and let them slip a bit to unwind the diff (eg, muddy verge). the tension therefore shouldn't get chance to build up . That make sense LB?
