I'm not familiar with that particular model, so can't offer much technical advice on it. But photography is all about light, and if the light isn't good you will struggle to get good shots... The first pic is quite a moody one and I like the light catching the water. The camera has really struggled to get a good exposure here because you were shooting into the sun. It's exposed for the bright area so lost detail in the water and the tress have become silhouettes. In this case, not a particularly bad thing as the sky looks great Same thing with the next two shots - facing the sun has led to lens flare, blown out sky and dark foreground. One way round this is to use a tripod, take several different shots at different exposure settings, then blend them in photoshop or similar software. Some cameras have this facility built in, not sure if yours does? The next two I think would look nicer with a bit cropped from the top and bottom of the pics, make them into panoramic style images. There is rather a lot of uninteresting grass and sky and all the interest is in the middle of the pic. The dog shots are fine considering it looks like a really dull day. For action shots you will probably find that you need to be slightly ahead of the action to get good shots. Press the shutter just before you think you need to! You can get good action stuff without a DSLR, but you do need to be one step ahead of the game because of shutter lag. The last shot looks like a fine beast would have been better if you could have got a little closer so I'd suggest cropping the shot to a square format and losing some of the fence on the left side. When it comes to composing shots the most basic rule is one of "thirds" If there is a point of interest in the shot try and place it a third of the way from the edge, like placing the horizon so that you have 2/3 sky 1/3 land, depending on which is most interesting. Look for lead ins to the subject of the image - a line of trees leadin into the distance, or like in your 2nd shot, the stream leading into the shot. Take advantage of nice light - just after sunrise and the couple of hours around sunset are the best times for photography. Early morning light is the best. Midday sun is ghastly... Best way to improve your photography is to go out there, take loads of pics, study the ones you like and try and remember what you did when you took them! dazzz 421 Posted March 17, 2011 Author Report Share Posted March 17, 2011 thanks for that MM i apreciate the advice and honest opinion, i was starting to think i wouldnt get a reply, the camera isnt exactly a professional type, but im hoping it will give me good enough shots for an amature like me,, as long as i can get a few good shot's whilst out mooching i'll be happy, do you think i would improve the pic's by using one of the site's where you can edit your pic's? and could you recomend one??. once again thanks for taking the time to reply atb daz Quote Link to post Share on other sites

I'm sorry I don't have any experience of the sites which allow you to edit your pics online, but if you want a photo editing software Photoshop Elements is a good one to start with. Picasa is a freebie and is also quite good for basic stuff. Did you get any software with the camera? That might be a start. 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites
