rocky1 942
my mates gots solar panels and turbine ,pannels were cheap enough but the turbine was expencive ,think he got them from baq
BULLDOUG 199
I think b&q have been forced to take theres off the market as they were proven not to give the 1000w output and in some cases even cost money to run
scalesntails 118
You can make your own from washing machine motors etc.

matt_hooks 188
Doug, what sort of system are you looking at? Are you looking at something that will provide 12 volt power to charge a battery, or will you be looking at inverting it up to mains voltage? Obviously the former will be far cheaper and easier to achieve, but will limit the applications.
matt_hooks 188
A washing machine motor isn't ideal, although it will do the job if you're clever with your wiring. Obviously, although in theory a motor and a generator are identical, practically a motor is not an ideal generator, and vice versa. Of course, a washing machine motor is cheap and readily available. It's all about getting the right compromise.

Hiya Mat, at the moment i have managed to buy a 24v perminent magnet motoe for a rotary blade typeturbine, i do have an inverter that was given to me for my project, also i was going to try and build a vawt out of plastic barrels and bike wheels, for this i was going to try and run a car alternator, as i will be able to run a bike wheel cog off a smaller gear to gain more rpm. I was planning on build ing a battery bank with leisur batteries Well this is my initial plan, im sure theres some problems to come. ATB D
