FAC Suppressor

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I'm an FAC holder with a space on my ticket for .22lr, was considering buying a weapon for both indoor range work and shooting rabbits, I would rather have a suppressor fitted to reduce muzzle report etc and i'm happy with the pros and cons of suppressed weapons but was wondering if I need to have the fact the weapon may be suppressed listed on my FAC, any advice?

It is a rather daft situation but the moderator needs to be listed on your certificate. You cannot buy a moderator for your .22lr without it being on your licence as the same rules apply to the moderator as to your rifle, it is, in effect classed as a firearm in its own right. So what you do is tell the guy in the shop that it is for your air rifle. Now you can purchase that identical moderator without any restriction whatsoever. Using it on your .22 would probably still be illegal but isn't it a crazy situation. If for example you see a good deal for a moderator in a shop but don't have your certificate with you, keep quiet about the actual intended use and just say it is for your air rifle and you can walk out with it.

I suggest get a SAK moderator, one of the lowest priced and as good as any for the .22 it is also easy to clean.

Oh, and as an afterthought... your licence needs to show something like...

.22RF Rifle

.22RF Sound Moderator (keep this as "make unknown")

.22RF ammunition and this should include "possess, purchase or acquire expanding ammunition"
