yes your dogs have chance of being poisoned, if you suspect, get them to vet's, otherwise stop your baiting and ask your neighbours to stop theirs, and use fenn traps and dogs when you can.( You can lift traps)

on the allotments that i go to. the owners throw stale bread to their hens, aswell as the normal food. the rats drag the bread down the burrows to eat it. i have found bread to be the best bait for the cage traps. a few weeks ago i lifted some platic roof sheets on the allotments, about 50 yrds from the nearest hens. and there must have been half a loaf under there. the next day it was gone.

also have you tried smoking them out to the dogs??

I used to have rats, most people would be upset, but I was glad, gave the pups something to hunt. I left them alone until they started chewing on the car wiring. I set live traps, and caught 120 rats in 18 weeks. I had two young pups that got to work the rats (when I released them in a field) from six weeks old to six months old, both turned out to be incredible locators.

I left the traps set, and did not catch any more until spring. Then I caught a few females and a big male, and I have not had any rats in about 5 years. I did see a few prints in the snow the other day, so I will set the traps again. Todd
