ghillies 209
gen 1 stuff you'll need IR lighting for them, most of the figi stuff needs IR too because theyre literaly low lux black and white camera's. the IR stuff can leed into hundreds of pounds but ebay sorts that with IR CREE tourch's..15-20 quid they good to about 100 yards veiwing eyes or through the scope. the older the gen1 model the more fun you'll have like wandering black noise in veiw, lol....ocationaly takes your ballance at first on goggles. electrostatic protection stops it. the old stuff is also had a polarity thing going on, faceing one direction on a compas can sometimes shift the poi a bit, newer stuff is suposed to have sorted that. couple other bits n bobs of info... light protected is NOT full auto gain protection. in short light pritected just means it reduces the electricity to the tube so doesnt amplify as much, helps but wont fully protect. full auto gain literally adjusts the power so that he tube will not burn out (or at least not for a year or so), it also shuts down a unit in some models. digital stuff you can usual use by day, and car headlights wont burn it out (may well wear it a little more though). Gen 2 stuff...most wont need IR, if they do the standar 100 plus Mw ones are too bright near too, so if your stood with something to close it blairs the IR at you... gen 3...ffffft.... cant say much, i dont have that kind cash! but yup theyre like better than a gen 2 the way the gen 2 are better than gen 1.... but... be aware, if you add up the cost of batteries useing disposables, or even worse durasells or lythions you could have bought a nice gen 2 unit instead of the gen1... and so on, there are CR123's etc that are rechargeable but make sure of the voltages before you try any. Mean while you may find some brands work better than others, duracell wont work in my cheapo NV, well.. a dwindly sicky turquose image.. pop in any other brand and hey presto yup they work lol. theres a rusian place makes the americam yukon stuff..cant think of theyre name, ok its a long way to send stuff back, but then its half the price to begin with. i've used two other rusian units that were superb compaired to the american 'badged' same units, so go figure on that one lol. digi NV usualy has a lot less feild of beiw, as in degree width of veiw...its anoying but then again they wont burn out and most have an AV socket hole for recording. last is.... some cheaper gen 2's are basicaly two gen ones, one behind the other...ok they may ork better but hey, they aint a gen 2 no matter much you pay.
