Guest Ditch_Shitter
F*ck it. Nothing ventured ~ Nothing gained! Okay, lads; I'm about to go for my chit. I'm as clean as fresh driven snow. I have my 'clean bill of health', from the uk Police, right here. I have a Professional 'Certificate of Safe Handling'. I'm actually (incredibly, ye might well say!) quite sane and pretty damn sober. I'm also quite old enough now that I don't think I'll be throwing any quirks of character in the future either. So, what's to stop them allowing me to hold a rifle (.22 Hornet, for my jobs work in fox control) ? Simple; The fact that I'm not in a Gun Club and so haven't got NARGC backing! I have Two Clubs - that I know of - within five miles of my door. One, I'm just outside what they consider their catchment area. They shoved me back towards 'my own' one. But that one's so small and secular and based in a place I simply never visit. I'd might as well rush down there, try to find the local Free Masons and ask if they could sign me up this week Ye Know what I'm saying, guys. I Need that back up! I Need a Membership. I need it Fast! Clock's ticking here. Someone here once PM'd me and told me about a Club. I was thinking of other things just then and rather swept the idea aside. More fool me! Man, if you - or anyone else - is reading this and knows a Club who might admit me ....? I have my paper work right here. I can prove I'm a good, clean boy. Hell, hand me a rifle and I'll prove more! I just need a Club, not a million Counties away, who may be willing to let me subscribe and get under that NARGC umberella. NARGC don't accept individual membership - I asked them Anyone know anything? I'll look out for incomming PM's Quote Link to post
Guest Macnas
Ditch If thats what the gardai told you, they are just trying to put you off. There is no legal requirment for you to be a gun club. You can get insurance yourself through the CAI or the IFA. Grand if you can get NARGC membership, but if you can't, just ask that your application be processed anyway. The copper at the desk has no say in the matter, and the superintendant has to have some sort of legal reason to deny you. Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Thanks for that, lads Obviously, I know the score with the 'Guy on the desk' and recognise there's no Legal requirement to be with a Club. It's just that, should the Super' get shitty with me, I'd prefer he knew he'd be facing the NARGC, rather than some pained individual who'd then have to find a private Soliciter to argue his case. Anyway, let me make this the place for yet More good news! : I was out today, checking my traps and ran into another neighbour. This guy owns the land on the other side of my sewn up permission. I'd floated the idea past him before, couple of times, but he just clammed up. Today I told him I have the nod from my immidiate neighbour, and his neighbour. TWO vast packets of land, side by side. The guy I'm speaking to being third in the sweep. Guess what?! So, I now have the nod from THREE entire farms, side by side and starting right on my door step! And I have a Fourth huge acreage within perfectly reasonable reach too! And who says I've finished digging yet? If I can convince the two outside boys to have a word with Their neighbours ....? Dommino effect! I could well end up with more damn permission than I'll know what to do with! I'll never get to be at home of a night! Have to get a tent! But, all joking aside though; I'd Really feel better having NARGC on my side. That means Club membership. Quote Link to post
Guest Macnas
Well ok, if there's one thing that gets the attention of a gun club, it's land to shoot over. Depending on the thinking of the landowners, you could have some bargaining power there. You also have some clout already, with your profession. Gun clubs profess to keeping the land clear of vermin, but usually fail in that respect, for all the usual reasons, i.e. couldnt be arsed shooting anything unless it's game. A fellow who could thin the ranks of the corvids and such might be an asset.... Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Sod it! That makes it even more peeving! See; I'm under Carrick ~ broadly. And the Club I know is over the 'border'. Where as 'My' Club are just a rumour to me. Yet I'll be wiping out vermin in Their area ..... and then slinging it in the compost bin! 'Mind you; How exactly do these guys have to show they're doing their bit? Lack of vermin, or tails to show? Anyone around needs bits of bod's to show someone ... I have a freezer ....! Quite agree about their attitude though, mate. I've seen them swaggering about in my local with their pathetic little Snipe and measuring pheasents tails on the opening day. Myself? I wouldn't shoot any Game if it was sat outside my fence - where I do in fact see it! But I Like seeing it there and would really rather that than put a hole through it, just because. Now, these three Hoodies I have living around my area? I'm Oh So looking foreward to the day when I can lean on my gate and watch one nonchallantley strutting about down in the bottom field there. Then send a high velocity round screaming towards his damn skull! Surprise, surprise!!! Quote Link to post
Guest JohnGalway
Unless your Supernintendo has a rep for being akward about firearms DS I'd apply now without the club membership. TBH gun clubs can be more of a PITA than an asset with all their politics and internal BS. You've already got permission from landowners who presumably have fox and vermin problems and have good reason therefore for owning a Hornet, IMO anyway. I know when I was making my applications I was s**tting myself and coming up with reasons why I'd get denied. Now in fairness I do own my own land but I sailed right through on the shotgun (14 days) and .223 (just shy of a month). Try your luck, I don't see how they have any legal reason to deny you. Guest Ditch_Shitter
From what I'm seeing, John, ye dead right about the 'Politics and BS' within these clubs. Seen it all with the Professional Pest Control bodys; Few of 'the lads' get together and say, "Let's form an organisation! ". Next thing ye know, these simple peers are appointing themselves " Chairs " and so forth and preaching like f*ck to anyone who didn't happen to be sitting in the right boozer on the right night! Anyway, rate it's going for me here, I'll soon have a sizeable chunk of Co. Leitrim to shoot over! It'll make denying me look pretty damn bad! I'll be chasing the paper tomorrow and will quite possibly be turning up to hand it in within the week now. Just have to sort out a lift into Carrick Quote Link to post
