Two pups at once

Recommended Posts

i try and get two pups on at once me just how i do it i always kennel em together never had any problems and them chasing each other about isn't a bad thing they only do it till there about old enough and recall is never a problem because there is two i find if you got the one pup and you take the older dog out the pup whines and if there on there own normally you get a shy pup unless in house i like my pups to be just that and another pup never does it no harm and bad habits they pick up off each other none should have bad habits thats what you let them get but they do pick good habits up like jumping fences pups follow each other they chase each other about which gets them fit for when they are ready for work jmho but yes 2 can be hard work but so can 1 atb in whatever you choose tho

I think it depends what you want to end up with as an adult dog. I personally like and need my dogs to be exceptionally well behaved as adult dogs . . . i want a dog that i can put into ANY situation and know 100% that it will never show me up. My life style is such that the dogs may be walking through London in the morning and out ferreting in the afternoon. I like a dog to be bomb proof. In order to achieve this, i put in hours of time and training, from 8 weeks to 2 years the dog is worked with until its sound. This may seem excessive to some, but for me its how i like to do it and i enjoy the rearing and training process.

In my experience i also like a puppy to come into a pack of older dogs, from day one they are fed, walked, and kept with the big dogs, i think it teaches manners and discipline to pups. Having two pups would imo mean that you would never be able to get a dog to an adequate level of training unless like someone mentioned . .. you don't work and are at it all day! I have a close bond with all my dogs and each is different, they all get on just fine and do what i expect of them.

There are people that literally want an out and out working lurcher and have no interest in the training side of things at all, manners and obidence are not important to them, chasing and catching is what counts. Each to their own, if this is the route you hope to take then i can't see that having 2 pups would be an issue, i would however from day 1 let them establish who's boss.
