need advice

Recommended Posts

i would like to know what amount of exercise my two lurchers need,I took Gypsie Rose today for slip lead training on the lure,on just the straight, she has never chased a thing in her life, unfortunately i couldnt take Dodger as just an hour before we were to leave he cut his paw.I was listening to a conversation about exercise for dogs, well they were discussing whippets.I tried finding a site about exercising lurchers but i dont think it was right i could be wrong. It said a lurcher only needs 3 half hour walks a day as long as you have a big space to let them lose in, i persume this means garden. This might help if i say what i intend to do with my dogs.I want to work them,on rabbits for now.Go to country fairs and do luring with them as well as our local greyhound stadium. My breeds are male beardie collie x grey x bedlington grey, female deerhound grey x collie grey.I just want to give my dogs the best.Male is 12 months female nearly 11 months.Anwould be great for my dogs. Thanks

That advice was bare minimum but if you want youre dog to be in good condition it will need a great deal more than that. Give the dogs as much excercise as you can if they get tired they'll take a break. The dogs will create their own pace if they are off lead. After a few weeks of plenty of excercise you will see a real difference in the dogs appearance. It's great that you want to do so much with your dogs. I hope they work well for you

thanks for getting back to me on the tracks,my dogs are only doing the straight no bends, just teaching them to chase the lure as i havent got any permission to hunt them yet.my sons boss at the stables were he works would let me use a field there but it is very rough ground. Not worth risking the dogs.Once i am confident they will chase the lure then i will only still go for practise on the straight. But i will heed your advice.Thanks.I will give you a laugh,i have always been a biker, decided to get fit so took my lads mountain bike out lol,not very straight to begin with a wiggle here and there.Stopped at the end of the main road, waiting for traffic to pass so i could get across to the other side.Put two feet on the bloody thing and tried to rev the handle, well as you guessed it didnt move and i fell to the ground bike on top of me.lol.Knowing me typical woman i,d run my dogs over.
