breay 0
the saying there is no bad dog only bad owners? takes a big man to take a small dog for a walk, but a small man to take a big dog for a walk. sad time for that poor family, (sorry for your loss) i have an eight year old staff dog when he was a pup we had an australian vet and he showed me the correct way to socialize a pup, blowing in face, cleaning eyes pulling cleaning ears, around the genitals, tail pulling, getting the dog used to everything he should and has come across very early in life (this method has worked on every dog i have owned). i used to sleep with the dog till i left home and the missus thought it un hygenic. he has never started on anyone he has been savaged numerous time by my mums westie and other dogs. he once was set up on by another very unsocialble staffy, my mum picked him up but had to drop him when the other dog wouldnt leave alone and he got to heavy. (dogs bark was worse than its bite) it got alittle mauling of my staffy as soon as my mum called him back he stopped and was at heal luckily other dog did one. but now he has learned the fun of fighting and will sometime strike but only dogs. dog fighting is in there genes but years ago what use would be a pit dog that bite its owners during a fight or could not be sold on due to it attacking people. the dogs where bidale to people but terrors to other dogs. when a sad event like this happens staffys get dragged into the frame as well, when i bought my staffy i joined a staffordshire bull terrier club, i was interviewed by the puppys breeder for 40 mins before i could even see mum dad and pups. things like this are brought about by people not dogs, first time my staffy or my other dogs shows any aggression toward people and the will get the jab and they will not do it again
lampinglurcher 36
good post mate i agree whole-heartedly, any dog can be changed in to an antisocial, aggresive nuisance, but any dog correctly brought up and socialised can make a pleasent addition to the home. the fighting genes in bull breeds do exist, but can be channelled into something useful, ie, working. these genes can never be fully suppressed. a good example is if anyone has ever kept a collie from working backrounds and either not worked it or not given it alot of exercise, more often than not, they turn out completely wild, or aggressive or lethargic. none of which a collie should be. any dog bred to work should do IMO and when they are not and are owned by irresponsible pricks, this is the result.
