To be honest mate it depends on how much you want to spend on one,, I know that the earliar forrester are about the best but after 2001 they got a lot more technical and they put alot more gadgets on them especially sensors on everything, I only know of a couple of things you have to watch with them is make sure all the belts have been changed and up to date, A forrester with up to date service history is a bonus, And also the engine management indicator on the later models if it is on it could be something simple as a exhaust sensor or something serious as a internal engine fault, Ive owned a 52 plate non turbo for 3 yrs and to be honest it has not missed a beat.

Hope this helps mate and if i was you if you know a machanic then all the better.

ATB, Steve.

Disconnect the plug on the back of the break peddle and cut the black n white wire run your switch through that its easy , i wouldnt bother with rally tyres i can get brand new mud and snows for 20 each there just as good ,if its a earlier model just make sure that the rear shockers are ok as they are prone for breaking , and buy a fresh car not an abused dogging bus as clutch tend to go or be going on second hand ones , if you get 1 and the engine managment light comes on i personally wouldnt worry as ive had 1 for 2 seasons with this light on , hope this helps and happy lamping ....
