Stalker 16 0
Last Monday me and the old man went to a poultry farm to help control the bunny numbers. we arrived at around 6:00pm, and driving into the property revealed heaps of half grown bunnys. we walked around the chicken sheds with the 22 and using Z-Longs for ammunition so we wouldn't scare all the rabbits after one shot like the power points. we ended up getting 7 rabbits and 5 good eaters (shown in the picture) We also found some good fellow country and a lot of sign. when we got back i skinned the rabbits hung them for 3 days and then soaked them in half water half vinegar to get ride of the gamey taste. I then marinated the meat in red wine and spices and roasted it for about one hour on each side very tasty and i will sure be doing it again. Quote Link to post
matt_hooks 188
Nice shooting, bet the farmer was pleased! Did you offer him some of the bunnies? I always do it with land owners. They rarely take any, but it earns big browny points! Bunny is great meat, totally lean, and virtually zero food miles. Also very tasty when well cooked. I often boil up a batch and pick the meat off. That gets rid of the gamey flavour, and helps to make the meat less chewy. Then you can cook it however you like, it makes a damn good curry, or great for adding to game pies. Personally I wouldn't hang them, but that's personal preference, and won't make much difference at this time of year anyway. Quote Link to post
