Electric fencing and other options to avoid wild rabbits

Recommended Posts

Other than chicken wire fencing there are various other options to keep wild rabbits away from your garden and they include the use of electric fencing, organic methods such as Pro-Tecs, commercial rabbit repellent like Hinder and Havahart live-traps. Also the use of many herbs has proved effective in repelling rabbits. An effective rabbit proof method is electric fencing for which no trenching is needed. While pounding your stakes for electric fences, you will need to attach insulators. Two wires are to be suspended from these insulators. You could use an electric fencing charger to charge your electric rabbit proof fencing. But many building inspectors Sydney home owners seek help from on matters of pest control suggest that fencing is not the only option for wild rabbit control. The same is possible also through organic methods.

An important organic rabbit repellent method is Pro-Tecs which exploits rabbit’s dislike of the smell of garlic. In a Pro-Tecs repellent clip, there is a concentration of garlic which is about thousand times stronger than garlic juice. You need to simply attach these repellent clips to your landscaping trees, garden plants etc. to repel wild rabbits. There is a good homemade organic rabbit repellent is soiled cat litter from a cat that has killed and eaten wild animals. You have to spread this cat litter, around the trees in the garden once in a week. Hinder is another commercial rabbit repellent and it has the advantage that it is safe to use on food crops. Also there are many plants that function as natural rabbit repellents. Many of these plants are poisonous also. There are many other natural rabbit repellents which rabbits avoid because they do not like their smell. Aromatic herbs such as lavender includes in this category. Also, rabbits do not like the smell of catnip.
