murraywatt 0
help wanted, i have a choke seized into the barrel of my semi auto, i have tried soaking it in petrol, WD40, nitro solvent and some also suggested coca cola all soaked for two or three days and not even a nudge, i have tried heating the barrel gently with a blow torch to see if expanding the barrel will work but to me surely the choke would expand with the barrel? anyway any help or suggestions would be appreciated, if nothing else works itl have to be a trip to the gunsmith i think Quote Link to post
SEAN3513 7
the choke tube is a lot thinner than the barrel...so will expand quicker when heated, so the best way to remove it is: heat up some "new" oil (engine oil is fine) hold the end of your barrel in the hot oil for a couple of minutes then allow to cool for approx 1 minute.......then every 30 secs try and turn the choke...it will come loose as it cools. when you have removed it....wire brush the thread ( gently) and when you re-fit or replace it add a SMALL AMOUNT choke lube to the thread( vaseline, if you havnt got any choke lube). good luck sean Quote Link to post
matt_hooks 188
Definitely a trip to the gunsmith! Don't heat the barrel any more, you'll ruin the carefully worked out temper of the metal and could weaken the barrel! Quote Link to post
murraywatt 0
thanks Sean will give that a try at the weekend, as for heating the barrel surely gently heating it not till its glowing or anything daft like that, just till oil starts oozing out between the choke and the barrel wont do any harm considering the big time clay shooters and skeet boys that fire hundreds of shots in a short space of time and the barrel ends up that hot you cant touch it, surely the metal must have some "heat resistance" to it? any opinions?
