hi

im new to all this....

i have a year old lurcher , not 100% on the breeding but it half bearded collie, x grey/bull/beddie?? not totally sure, saw parents , mother was collie father was a tall greyhound cross with some bull and bit of other things.wish i'd taken a pic!

he is a great dog, great with kids, recall great walks to heel, he retrieves but drops short?

he is approx 22 1/2 inch to shoulder. he's my first working dog had a full collie before him.

what i am wondering is?

how do i get him to retrieve to hand?

the ground we cover is either open moor, pine plantations and large amounts of bracken. when he off the lead he will walk upto 10 metre in front looking whats about but he stays on the paths, he seems to have no interest in looking for prey and wont enter longer grass /bracken etc to see whats about. im sure if he had more of a wander he would put something up?

took him camping a few weeks ago and the wood was teaming with squirrels, he was like a different dog, totally alert and always off chasing( could get up the trees though).

is it the ground we cover has no prey or has he not seen enough yet? would getting a rabbit skin for him to rag help?

whats the best breed of dog for bushing? will a lurcher do it or would it need some terrier in it or do they just learn?

hope this makes sense? thanks for reading and any helpful replies.

will put a pic up if i can make it work
