gweedo 0
hi all just wondering if anyone can shed some light on a gun that has been handed down to me by my father i have done some searches on the net which bought nothing to light . The gun is a lepco 410 long barrell double hammer double trigger side by side which was made in belgium i have allways been told it was a poachers gun as it folds in half it is a lovely little gun needs a bit spending on it to nitrate proof it but would be worth it i think if any one can shed some light that would be great thanks Quote Link to post

Guest Macnas
LEPCO, I think, may have been a trade name under which Manufacture d'Armes des Pyrénées, a French/Spanish company, sold guns into the UK and the US. They were sold in the UK by LePersonne & Co, London and may have had an office in London themselves at some stage during the 1920's. If your gun had Belgian proof marks, it could have been made there by one of the hundreds of small arms workshops in Liege/Herstal, and distributed by Lepco/MAP under thier name. As to it being a poachers gun, well, any gun that could be folded up and hidden under a coat or in a sack could be called a poachers gun, and folding .410's are often called that. Belgium and France turned out thousands of these litte single barrel hammer guns, very cheaply, and some were terribly made and downright dangerous to use. Your gun sounds unusual in that it's a double barrel, and if it's in good nick, might be of some interest to a collector. Quote Link to post

Passed down from my grandad who kept telling me that it was a poachers gun as it just fits nicely in the inside pocket of a wax jacket. It hasnt got any markings on, but for some reason im sure he said it was belgium make Always remeber him taking me out with it in the van just tucked in between the seats then knocking pheasants over from the van window and telling me to fetch them while he kept the engine runnig. Could never understand why he didnt want anyone to see us  Quote Link to post
