Hello,

I am looking into getting an FAC (.22LR for rabbits for food, mainly). I've spoken to a farmer and there is no problem with permission there (this will go on the application). While one permission is great, I'll probably get a few more at some point. However, I've read that I wont get an open ticket straight away, which means I'll need to check if its been approved by the police.

1.) How would I check if a land has been approved and that I can shoot it?

2.) If land has not been approved, how do I go about getting it approved, and does it cost much?

Thanks

PS, this assumes that I am correct in thinking that an open ticket means I can shoot anywhere I have permission and consider safe, while a closed ticket means that I have permission and the police have deemed it safe.

Well, all you have to do is phone up your issuing force and let them know that you have been given new permission, they may ask you to send a copy of the written permission stating obviously the address of the farm or land and the contact details of the land owner. They keep a data base of pre-approved land.

If the land hasnt been checked by police, all they will do is send a officer out to look at the ground & maybe speak to the landowner, to be sure it is safe. AT no cost to yourself, they may deem it suitable for a .22lr but not a larger calibre.

Saying that, on my application for FAC the officer went and spoke to one of the land owners to talk them through my character and explain that a .22lr is a live cartridge rifle and not an air-gun. Although Graham my FAO is a great character and the farmer & i didnt mind giving up a couple of hrs for a natter.

ive just had my ticket changed to "open" juts make sure you buy loads and shoot loads of ammo, that way you can prove that you have had plenty of experience with the .22lr before asking for a "open ticket.

Hope this helps

Sam
