hunter1016 0
Here is a hunting story that could easily serve as good advice. A long time ago, at Lac Carré (Qc) , my friend Tom and I, had kill moose on a little hill on the main road. The next year, on the same hill, we hit it lucky again. Since it was much traveled, this hill quickly became very popular. The third year, some friend had claimed the territory before us and one of them had chosen the hill for tow days when Tom and I came by. We stopped and had a chat. He hadn’t been lucky at all since no moose had showed up. He told us he would abandon the area if that night he hadn’t seen one by then. We left, and on the way back, at around three in the afternoon, found the place deserted. Like very good hunter, Tom was full of tricks. He told me : « I’ll play heck of a trick on him ». He pulled a bag out of this car and removed from it a milk-cow’ leg, left tracks all over the road and drove away really proud of himself. Imagine our friend’s surprise when he came back … How sorry he was to have left his post ! « In the future, they won’t sneak by me like this », he told himself. He swore he’d never leave his post until the hunting season was over. Tow days later, we went through there again, very early in the morning. It was still dark. Again, Tom left tracks all over the road. I told him : « that’s really malignant, Tom ». « - what the heck, we’ll have fun » he answer. This time the hunter arrived with a friend. Seeing the fresh « moose» tracks. They arranged to watch the hill day and night in order to prevent one from going by unseen. The poor beginner spent the whole hunting season watching over milk-cow tracks … even to this day, they don’t realize all the trouble they gave themselves for nothing. A real hunter would have followed the tracks in the bush to find out where the moose was coming from and where it was heading. He would have then realize somebody was playing a trick on him Drawn from the Book " moose calling and hunting techniques " by Paul Grenier. all rights reserved Quote Link to post
