Stock refinishing

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

the stock on my Weihrauch looks a bit tatty what with barbed wire rocks ect and I was thinking I would refinish the stock. The plan is to remove the stock and coat with paint stripper, then remove all the varnish with wire wool. Stain it a nice dark colour. After that I will rub in linseed oil once a day for a week or so until it looks ok. I want it to have a matt finish instead of shinny scratched varnish. Does this sound ok or would you do it differently? Has anybody ever done this? (I saw a Weihrauch HW 95 on this forum somewhere that someone had done something similar with.)
