jjbel 0
When I go lamping I always keep my dog on their slip until I see a suitable run then lamp it and let the dog loose. Do you guys keep your dogs on the slip lead or have them loose and walking beside you throught the fields?? Quote Link to post

coursing_lad 45
had 1 bitch years ago , whom would work beside you , and walk to heel , untill you gave her the word to go , but id prefer to slip when needed , as many situations could arise when out lamping , best to know you have control over your dog Quote Link to post
jjbel 0
I think keeping on the slip is best, you have total control has mentioned. I went out with my bro-in-law a few nights ago, he dont have dogs now but used to.I was holding my older dog and he was holding my 6mth puppy. Has soon has we got out of the car in the first field he let the puppy straight off to run, I asked him what he was doing, to which he replied thats how he used to do it. We were on my permission so we walked on and I let the older dog off too at his request, to cut a long story short after 2-3 hrs lamping we never killed 1 rabbit and never had many runs. The dogs werent running the fieldsbutwerealways to and thro 20 odd paces around us. I think they were scaring the rabbits away before we had a chance for a good lamp on them. I have never done it like this before and had no success at it this time,so wont do it again. Last night we went outand did it my way and had 3-4 rabbits within 30mins,and it was like daylight and calm as anything. He still wouldnt admit holding the dogs on the slip was best, you cant tell or showsome people though.. Quote Link to post
the great white hunter 1
i would rather hav them on slip mate coz if there of the lead and see somthing they will chase it but there could be another rabbit closer but your dog chaseing the other rabbit and it could ruin a easy catch atb great white Quote Link to post
