Guest whippet
17 on your own, you can buy your own guns and ammo at that age too. All you'd need is permission from your 'rents to have the cabinet in the house and 2 referees. Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Well, there's two ~ contradictory ~ opinions, mate. Maybe, by the time you're forty, you'd like to come on here and ask for a diagnosis on possible prostate cancer too? Mheanwhile; Pick up the phone. Call your County Constabulary. Speak to their Firearms Officer. He'll be a man who Knows the correct answer Quote Link to post

Speak to their Firearms Officer. He'll be a man who Knows the correct answer With all due respect DS, I do KNOW the right answer. It is 14 with parental permission (a signature from your mum or dad along with the obligatory referees) and 17 without, I merely answered the question correctly from the point of view of someone who assumed he was over 17 and stated what was relevant and a little more to cover any questions arising from him WRT purchasing guns and ammo. And my post and the other do not contradict each other, Jason correctly stated the minimum age but was wrong by one year on the other, a very logical mistake to make as it would be very easy to assume it's 18 unless you had read a brief synopsis of age limitations WRT firearms and shotguns on your local constabularies website AND taken the time to thoroughly study the HO firearms legislation, as I have. Guest Ditch_Shitter
No offense meant, Whips. And none, I'd hope, taken? I was just questioning the seemingly prevelant attitude that one should consider a forum full of laymen the first port of call for any and every enquirie to spring to mind. Google aside, what ever happened to asking the people who are at the very hub of the given subject, day to day, as a profession? Look at the guys who come here, Dog seemingly at deaths door, and ask 'us' what they should do about it. By the time they sit and await a raft of random, personal, well meant opinions it could well be too late for a trained Vet to do anything to help. It's not so much the questions or the answers which I question; It's the whole 'Yahoo Answers' mentallity of viewing a bunch of guys sat at key boards as a panacea for Everything. Sometimes just asking 'The Man' can be the straightest route. Even via Google, as I'd imagine JohnB is suggesting there. Fora, like Horoscopes, should be for fun, recreation and relaxation, more than viewed as a one stop oracle. That's all I'm saying Quote Link to post
Guest whippet
No offence taken mate. Without trying to sound up my self I'm a fair bit above average intelligence, especially for someone of my age, and I just get a bit disgruntled when adults look down on me or disregard my opinon solely because of my age. It's happended to me a fair bit before, especially on forums, so I kinda jumped at your reply. That's the annoying thing about forums, you can't truly understand the tone that someone says something in, with or without smileys. I was just questioning the seemingly prevelant attitude that one should consider a forum full of laymen the first port of call for any and every enquirie to spring to mind. I agree with you on this point, it's not just forums though, it's the internet in general. Although the net is great for finding information and communicating, it's not the definitive guide to life, the universe and everything and people have a habit of becoming detached from reality when they spend too much time on the net. I should know, I f*****g do it too. Edited August 25, 2006 by whippet Quote Link to post
