First Carp

Went to a trout fishery at Wymeswold yesterday, fished all day without catching a single trout, had only one pull, which I missed. About 6pm I was moving to a different spot when I noticed a fish rumaging about in the mud just in the margin, so I cast this gold headed nymph

 

 

a few feet beyond it and slowly twitched it back. When the nymph disappeared into the cloud of silt the fish had put up the line went tight Couple of minutes later after a decent fight, I netted my first fly caught carp. Was chuffed to bits!! Cheers

Excellent, its surprising how succesful the good old nymph patterns can be for the Carp, i catch many on Pheasant tail nymphs which they seem to find irresistable.

Used to catch carp on the fly using a hares ear back in blighty.

i bet that gave a good fight on a fly rod. i spent months learning to cast a fly rod and practicing on a field and i havent even been yet and that was about 4 years ago.

That's a nice catch mate I caught a 19 pound carp on the fly and I used a goldhead aswell

 

It took me like 30 mins 2 get it in like

 

Anyway nice catch and all the best mate
