Guest billy boy
I hope all the Pest control guys and the Trapping people can also tell me about their experiences regarding these Live catch Traps also. For myself I decided to buy one and try it out for myself. Over the years I've used alot of different type of Traps, spring Traps, Live catch Traps etc. I caught alot of Rabbits and Squirrels in this type of Trap. At the end of the day a Trap is a Trap and will catch eventually in the right hands...... Also I managed to catch a Jay, 2 Magpies and a countless number of Pheasants. I would be extremely interested to hear from anyone to any other types of Quarry they have accounted for. It's always been a fascination with the Trapping game and to what different types of Quarry can be caught in these Multi-purpose Live catch Traps. Best Regards. Billy boy....... Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
A Trap is a Trap ..... what different types of Quarry can be caught in these Multi-purpose Live catch Traps. Could you please be a bit more specific, mate? Which traps exactly are You referring to as " Multi Purpose Live "? Only, down the years, a great many 'Cage' and other Live traps have been called that. A photo might help. Or at least a written description of the dimensions and mechanism you have in mind there. Just to whet your appetite though; I've personally set for, and caught, weasle in a "Monarch" 'rat trap'. Whilst both Legg Single Catch and Youngs / New Forest are notoriously the very devil on jays. Oh, and I'm sure we've, most of us, heard about the hooded crow taken in a Youngs " Whole Family " rat cage? Having said all that; The cage I currently believe is marketed as a " Multi Purpose Live " is quite a big, rather nice, British made number, sold by Essex Pest Control. Have a couple of those here too. Just never got round to trying them out yet. But, now ye mention it; I may well! Very soon! Quote Link to post
Guest billy boy
Dear Ditch Shitter, Apologies for the lack of details regarding the multi-purpose live catch Trap, but I was In a hurry as things got pretty busy with certain things. You are correct about the multi-purpose Trap, Essex Rodent control do supply them. Hoping you have some luck with them. Best Regards. Billy boy............ Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Here we are, lads. Just so's every one else can get up to pace with us on this one: 'Multi Purpose Trap Frontal View Measures aprox. 23" long. 10" wide and 9 1/2" high. So you may even get a whole cat in there! It certainly seems as it it could hold one. Though, what you'd then do with the damn thing would be your problem! Available from 'Essex Enviromental Supplies Ltd' (Call Free: 0800 0851 451) for only 22.50 squids a throw, plus carriage, of course. They're a very well made trap and are British! Highly reccomended piece of kit, I'd say. Obviously, that one of mine there has been slightly modified. I've painted the plain wire green. Attatched a handle to lift and carry it by. The ply in the rear bottom's also mine ~ stops the buggers digging under it to get at the bait. An old 2oz 'baccy tin, or similar, wired in there might be as good? These traps work on the 'usual' Full Treadle system. When they fire, that solid door really does come down with a quick, strong, no nonsense sort of bang about it. Locks solidly shut and I honestly can't see much of our stuff getting back past it. Mesh, at 1" sqr., could be a bit smaller, for my tastes. But then it's not one I'd rely on for rats anyway, so that doesn't really matter. New and novel feature, to me, is the removable front grill. That front comes fully meshed. You get to decide just what sized hole to cut in it and away you go. I made mine 'Ground Vermin' sized. Take that off and, like the catalogue says, you have a Rabbit Cage. Over all, as a trap described as " Multi Purpose ", I'd say it should do what it says on the can. I'm really quite delighted to own a pair of them and will be putting them to some tests, just as soon as my circumstances permit. What circumstances ....? Simple enough: I have no guns with me just yet. I'm not about to try to catch Anything in a cage again, untill I have a certain, safe and humane way of despatching the bloody thing! Guest Ditch_Shitter
And what was the bait, please, mate? Quote Link to post
Guest billy boy
Dear Wazcor, I caught alot of Hegehogs also, bloody things! It's amazing really what one finds in these type of Traps. I've caught Pheasants in them , and a rogue Fox has killed them by pulling their legs through the wire meshing. Best Regards. Billy boy....... Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Peanut butter. For squirrels Just try Whole Maize, mate! And I paint mine so dark because - on the bogs here - I usually work amongst mature Juncas. You'd likely be better off going for a lighter green. For when that garden job comes up Actually; A really decent 'cammo' is surprisingly easy too. Don't forget the black streaks! Quote Link to post
