Training Gun Dog Scurry

Recommended Posts

Hi

This is a sort of question or maybe more of what do you? or advise?

I spent this afternoon at a local fun dog day.

Watching the gundog scurry

I noticed some owners send their dogs to pick up the first dummy, and some send to pick up the second dummy thrown in a 2 dummy pick up.

I think watching my spaniel, he marks the first then the second and picks up best if he goes for the second first and then back for the first.

Is there any right or wrong way for this in training for field trials.

Is it just a matter of choice or does a dog have a logical way for pick up.

When i train my dogs, I will thow out on dummy left 1st dummy,,,,,, then one right, second dummy..

I then will send the dog out for the 1st dummy, as the dog will be concentrating on the last dummy thown and this makes a steady dog. thats the way i do it.

but am sure some people do it different

all the best

I think the idea is you are asked to fetch the dummies in a particular order. The dog obeys and does not choose.

When two dummies are thrown in tests you will be asked to pick the first dummy thrown, as the dog is concentrating on the last dummy.
