luis1987 0
how do you teach a terrier to mark a used rabbit warren? hi, from what i've seen they tend to have some instinct to be honest. they need to be near by when you bolt some rabbits to get the idea of what is in the holes they are meant to mark. let the dog "get on" to a rabbit also. it is important only to praise the dog when a rabbit bolts from the hole that he has marked, not every time he marks, otherwise, they start marking for no reason. when i was out on saturday, the dog had'nt really worked the rabbits before. he marked a warren, ferrets went down. nothing! no praise. Went on to some others, he seemed a bit more keen. bolted a rabbit from that warren, nearly slipped the net, dog got on it. once he had the "taste", he was loads better. every hole he marked after that, spot on. all dogs are different, some learn quicker that others, but if you dont rush it, and only praise when job done, the dog will learn. hope this helps a little. i'm no expert, but just telling from experience. luis Quote Link to post
