Ace739 0
Can anyone give me some advice, im getting a Deerhound x Deerhound /Greyhound/ Collie pup (9 weeks old) on Saturday, i was just wondering the best way to introduce them to rabbiting and at what age. Im aware that she is far to young at the minute i was just looking for some future tips. Also ive heard about people giving them raw chicken legs is that a top tip?? Quote Link to post
DRP 3
YES! Feed BARF (bones and raw food/biologically approved raw food). All dogs should be on BARF no matter what you want from them, if they're gonna be workers or just pets or what ever. Chicken carcasses, tripe, lamb, beef, pork bones what ever a wild dog/wolf would eat. Just DON'T cook any of it!! For starters, when does god come down and microwave the elk for the wolves??? Secondly, if bones are cooked they will become brittle and can cause intestinal problems, not good!! Also, by cooking the meat you are removing some of the goodness from it and it can actually cause problems as dogs haven't evolved to digest cooked meat. If people are interested, Tom Lonsdale has got a couple of good books out on the subject - Raw Meaty Bones - is one of them and it goes into more scientific detail as to why you should feed raw and not cooked meat let alone the crap that the dog food industry pumps out. Also, if you get your pup onto some fruit and veg when its young, its more likely to accept it later on in life. But this should only play a small part of your dogs diet. Remember dogs are omnivores not strict carnivores like cats are. All the best with your new pup. Quote Link to post
