Guest whitser
a dip in the sea or a river or pond is all mine get. i always thought that washing them was bad for the oils in their coat. if they are really filthy after digs i'd hose them down with water only, no shampoo. dry them off properly every time. Toni_Dave_17 0
well if the dogs are kept in the house then fair enough.. but doesnt it ruin the coat? so id tell him not too :11: Toni Dave and i thought that if you whiped them clean you whipe away the oils...if its a nice day leave em to dry i would, coz then the oils can soak back in to the skin and hair... isnt it? Guest whitser
yeah true but if its during the season after a days digging you should dry them off before kennelling them up for the night, arthritis etc.. Quote Link to post
thurso jack 3
i always bath mine after ratting etc but not if they have just been out a mooch, hate the thought of fleas etc on them! Quote Link to post
Toni_Dave_17 0
yeah thats true coz the seasons through the autumn winter months isnt it. if you go out through the summer then there would be no problems for obvious reasons.. cooling down etc we do it with the horses every now and again, not the same thing i know but same thing with the coat situation :11: and obviously, when hunting on horse back, the muds comes from nowhere! :11: Toni Dave Edited July 18, 2006 by Toni_Dave_17 Quote Link to post
Guest stantheman
mine are in the lakes & rivers all the time in this heatwave, the coats look good. Quote Link to post
pointer28 1
If you look after the inside the outside will look after itself. I keep mine well fed with some raw eggs added and a drop of cod liver oil now and again and they have fantastic coats and the dirt just falls off as soon as it dries. I never wash them and they look immaculate every morning when they come out of the kennel. Works for me Quote Link to post
cdnhastings 23
Mine loves the hose, she is relentless if I don't stop she'd pop from swallowing so much water, you can watch her sides swell as she is constantly 'biting' the jet of water. but other than that she doesnt get much of a cleaning. In the winter I'll give her a good rub down in the snow seems to do the trick. Quote Link to post
