Guest A Sick Old Man
I have a bit of a restricted FAC which states that I must only purchase expanding ammo, but I have been asked by the farmer to shoot in an area that is small in size and I was wondering what is the lowest powered .22 expanding you can get. If I cant get any I will use the .17, but its a bit loud as you know. Cheers, Sick  Quote Link to post
Guest Frank
Subsonics are pretty low powerd, well, saying that, the winchester subs, really do pack a punch. Only problem is, they bounce around like mad. The .17 hmr, using V.max bullets, is the safest option and as far as i know, most police forces in the UK, grant this quiker, then they would a .22lr, dues to the .22 having ricochet problems. Frank. Guest baldie
First you have the .22 short, which is about half the power of a sub, then you have the CB cap, which is smaller still, and ideal for around farm buildings etc, then you have the gallery round, which has no powder in, and fires from the primer only, these are the ones in use at fairs etc. However, these smaller rounds can only be used in a bolt action. There is a bolt conversion available for the ruger 10/22, but its expensive. Guest A Sick Old Man
Why cant you use them Baldie? I do not mind using the cocking lever to recycle the weapon, ta for the rounds info though I will have a look around for them, trouble is I can only purchase expanding. A lot of these low powered rounds are dome headed, funny clause on my ticket that Quote Link to post
Guest baldie
I see no reason why you couldnt cycle each one manually, though you may have feed problems from the mag. However, to my knowledge, all of the small cartridges are solids. Quote Link to post
