Fishing down Plymouth way

Recommended Posts

Last week I went on my holidays with the wife down to Wembury near Plymouth. I have never fished before in my life and thought that I had read enough books and trawled through the mags to be let loose with a 7ft spinning rod and some lures. I had my shock leader tied on so I was ready to go.

I set off along the coastal path south of Wembury beach along by the horses to a corner where you can safely get down on to the rocks. I had got my rod and a bag with the lures and spinners in etc. When I got across the rocks to the sea I started to "set up" the rod as I had practiced times before. Why was it I had forgotten my glasses and every time I got hold of the spinner to tie it on the treble stuck into my finger every time? I finally got set up and gave the rod a good swing towards the sea and yippee the spinner went off into the distance all of about 10 yards. So I thought right pull it back in, next thing I thought wow whats this? the rod started to bend and I was pulling like crazy reeling the monster in. Anyway it turns out to be a big piece of sea weed not a small bit a big bit. This went on for a while until I was throwing the spinner further and further I was really enjoying this fishing lark as I had a massive pile of sea weed by this time. The joys of being a beginner. That was my first experience of fishing but I loved every minute I have been shooting for 30+ years and wanted something for "out of season" I think I love sea fishing. My only regret is that I didn't check my PM's as someone offered to take me out whilst I was down there and I cocked up and did not look. You know who you are Thanks again for the offer, its the thought that counts.

The next day I went to "Mount Batten" and the shock leader knot kept getting stuck/catching on the rings and I had a few birds nests.

I still enjoyed it although I never caught a fish.

If there was a trophy for catching weed then I would have won it hands down.
