ARGUMENT WITH A MATE.

A mate rang me up today, to ask how my kits were getting on. We got talking about what we feed our ferrets and he said his ferrets never lie up, as he feeds them cooked meat and cat food and he reckoned that if they killed, they just move on and dont feed on the rabbit.

I explained that i feed mine whole carcasses and if no fresh meat, cat food. He was horrified that i feed them raw meat and crows, pigeons, magpies, rabbits, ect. He said that they will turn savage and lust for the kill and lay up.

I explained that i would feed them before i went out and that should stop them eating what they killed, but he did not listen.

What do you all think?

My young ferrets seem to be doing great on the fresh birds, rabbits i feed them, i have done this in the past, as i think its better for them. I only use cat food when i dont have fresh carcases.

Frank.

i feed mine on carrots it helps them see in the dark :good:

Sounds like an Old Bob that knows everything and feeds them on Bread and Milk.

Our ferrets get washed a couple of times a year to go to ferret shows and the entire Hobbs stink a bit, they love a swim in the bath but dont appreciate being blow dried.

If you want to clip a ferrets toes bribe the buggar by putting ferretone on its tummy while its licking it off do its claws.

Ferrets are 100% carnivore rabbit gives them everything they need and keeps their teeth clean.

A well fed ferret is the key to not getting layed up,but some of it depends on the strain of ferret,if you find a strain whose traits suit you then thats great, stick with it .I've found it doesn,t matter what their fed on just as long as they ain,t hungery when working

So what if a ferret kills a rabbit down a hole .Imagine going out in the field next to the farm house you ferret the morning away and your veggie ferret leaves the rabbits that dont bolt ,half a hour after you finish up the farmer looks out his window and see all these rabbits running about .I dont think i would be ferreting that farm the next week somehow .It dont matter what you feed them a ferret should kill or stick till dug too any rabbit that wont bolt .
