wooly 24
Two months back I posted about an incident that happened while I was out one evening working some cover with my three terriers in the hope of maybe getting a run for my Lurcher. A guy appeared walking his two dogs one of which a Springer spaniel squared up to my Patterdale dog, before I could get to them they both set about each other my dog eventually locking onto the shoulder of the Springer. Which seemed like an age but was literally seconds and with no help from the owner I managed to get him to release. With loads of apologies from me we parted company. As it happened the guy lives in the same village, he called round that evening moaning to the wife about my dangerous dog. At this stage I contacted Countryside Alliance Legal who I have membership with to se how I stand and as usual the law is not completely clear about the liability of such an incident, so I requested a claim form in anticipation of the worse outcome. Sure enough the next evening he calls at the house I was out, he saw my son and told him he had to take the dog to the vets, emergency operation £560 bill left for me to pay. Three days later he calls again, dog not healing had to have another operation the bill now over £1000. We had words me stating that he was much to blame as me and would he be paying me if the boot was on the other foot “I think notâ€. Anyway to cut a long story short I filled in the claim form sent it to the Countryside Alliance they settled the claim and dealt direct with the owner from when they received the claim form completely hassle free. I am most impressed with the Countryside Alliance and the way they dealt with the whole affair and I would recommend everyone involved in county sports to join, the piece of mind is definitly worth the very reasonable subscription. Without the Alliance I am sure the owner would have pursued it, what ever the outcome who needs the agro!
