john b 38
her is a pic of trap but i had to draw it my digi cam is playing up he bait is attached to string when the fox enters and pulls the bait it puts the nail out (which is holding up the door) the door then closes and cannot be pussed open from inside..... Mate try two things: Is the string only passing over a top bar and the bait hung low ? If so then the string will 'pivot' on that top bar and go diagonal as the fox backs out. Charlie could get quite a long way out before it pulls the pin, especially if the pin is a bit stiff to get out. This will be worse the higher the trap is compared to the length. Try making the string shorter or looping the string through a square in the back mesh lower down so that it has to pull the string horizontal. Second - try and add some sort of door lock. Either a gate clip for when it shuts, or a bar that drops, or even a weight. John Quote Link to post
Guest oldskool
can someone put pics of there trap up i set mine with bait and then this morning the door was closed and bait gone why is this her is a pic of trap but i had to draw it my digi cam is playing up he bait is attached to string when the fox enters and pulls the bait it puts the nail out (which is holding up the door) the door then closes and cannot be pussed open from inside..... could a fox manage to pull it opn from inside my bait went missing loads of times and i couldnt figure out why. when it rained and the ground got kinda muddy i could see alot of scuffing and foot prints at the back of the cage. i think he was putting his paw through the mesh and eating the bait off the string. the door would fall but clever reynard was outside the whole time. i fixed the problem by surrounding the back and sides with branches etc. Edited July 7, 2006 by oldskool Quote Link to post
