pups first catch

i was out yesterday with the pup and the old lurcher.i had a walk round my local lake with them .there were a number of people fishing so i decided to take th dogs round the back of the lakes onto the fields so they could have their excerscise.i let the dogs off just after getting past into the trees that surround the lake.the old lurcher went straight into the trees and flushed a mallard.the pup was straight onto it,it chased it into a stream,took a leap in and came back out with his prize.funnily enough the duck didnt have a feather out of place.i ook the duck from the pup,threw it up and it flew straight back into the lake.i am not one for letting pups chase stuff at only five months old,but he was onto it before i could recall him back.i still gave the pup loads of praise for doing it and its another lurning curev for him.i was half expecting the duck to be in a right mess wheni got it off him as he normally chews stuff up so it was a shock to see there wasnt a mark on it.

i dont like it personally,but i would normally just feed it to the ferrets.but its that time of year again and most of the ducks are either sitting eggs or have young i thought it better just to release it rather than kill it,its always there for next time
