Guest MickyB
Hi all Im new to this and have literally no idea how to create a website for my established business. Im not after a complex site, just a few very simple pages with details of my business aswell as some pictures. I want it to corespond to my business image, and contain my logo, as well as logos of my associates. I know there is free web design available, but does this mean I will have a website name that also has their name on it? Do I need to create/buy a domain name first that suits me, and then go on to create the site?? Im after a 'www. _____.com' or 'www.____.co.uk'. I really have no idea I think I need talking through the process step by step, if anyone can help me with this I would be very grateful. Kind Regards Micky

Kind Regards Micky there is a lot to think about micky first of all you need somewhere thats houses your website (this is called hosting) and you need a website address - these are two seperate requirements. there are loads of companies that do this and you can pay monthly for them too. you should register the website address in your name (a .co.uk address you register them in 2 year periods) and then tell your hosting provider what it is. if you get them both from the same place then you dont need to worry about this bit. Once you have your website address (your domain) you can then design your website. I recommend using dreamweaver cs - its easy to use but it is expensive. there are other free ones out there though if you search for them. Once you have designed your website it will be sitting on your home pc so you need to upload it to your hosting providers server (your domain). Depending on who you are using as your hosting provider, they may give you tools to upload. If not, you will need to download an FTP client program. This is a simple program which allows you to see the files on your computer in one window and the files on your domain in another. You then simply either drag and drop your website files to your domain or highlight them and click upload to transfer them accross. i would recommend doing the steps in the following order: 1. reserve your website name/domain 2. design and build your website (it may take a couple of weeks so if you had paid for your hosting it would be wasted because you wouldnt be using it yet) 3. find a hosting provider 4. upload your website hope the above makes sense
