Go for it Jiggy, the ole collie /grey stays deep within me, good clever dogs, my first was way back in 1958 a young 14 year old Boy, my uncles working Hill collie bitch, x Cotton king ( waterloo cup winner, and back in those days Hill collies could work, pace stamina, and Brains, No Quad bikes, every body had to work back in those days or simple you did not EAT, The collie bitch was tyed up in the wee cow byre, Cotton king his kennels was only about 200yards away down at the bottom of the field, He escaped from his pen, and the byre door was a little bit open enough for the dog to get in, were the bitch was, a couple months later an un wanted litter of pups was born, I begged my Grannie to let me keep this black dog pup with a white blaze, down his chest, the mating was just a pure accident, (( truth)) that is when I fell in love with my Lurchers, we are talking of 60 years Ago, I bred my wee black bitch this summer,  she is Saluki/whippet/greyhound, just under 23"  mated to a very good Scottish dog he was 9 years old my disappointment she only had one pup a Black dog pup,  is this a coincidence, I know this will be my last Lurcher pup to rear and enter, ((((  as they say spirit is strong but the flesh is weak,

  2. I made a genuine inquiry about these dogs and was given the number of a guy called BOB, a few simple questions determined he knew as much about Deerhound as I do about flying the space shuttle, he said he was selling the dogs for his BOSS but he didn't have the dogs, I asked could he send a good picture of the bitch and her registration cert, he said his Boss couldn't send a good pic as he had a bad phone ,so presumably his Boss can pay his wages every week but he can't buy a decent phone, never heard as much cock & bull in 40 yrs in dogs.

  3.

So over the last week I have noticed something not right with my 4 year old hob. Lack of energy , little bit wobbly on back end, dull eyes and weight loss. He is eating but not alot and has diarea. So I took him to the vet last night , he wasn't sure what it was and gave him antibiotics as a cure all see if it worst sort of thing. I am having a hell of a job getting the antibiotics in him he hates it and froths at the mouth and spits it out while clawing at his mouth :( then crushed it up with water and tried getting it in him with a syringe which he spat most out.

Anyway seems much the same today, ate some egg and dry food. He just lies around all the time and am v worried, I know your not meant to have favourites but....

Wondered if any of you guys have seen anything similar.

    ATB George

my two had the exact same symptoms during the recent hot weather only thing I could think of was that they weren't getting enough water from their bottles .so put in a bowl of water and they drunk it dry so kept two bowls of water in the hutch and the ferrets were right as rain after a few days

I have one getting light now, the flow from his water bottle wasn't great so changed it, think it might be the problem

This is not a DH x GH, its a Deerhound cross useless babbling Foxhound, my next door neighbour put his foxhound which he normally crosses with a maltese (not joking) into my yard when I wasn't there and is now trying to flog them for £600, this guy has lots of money but will do anything for more, his boarding kennel page is https://www.(!64.56:886/abbeyboardingkennels/

  5. Sean, is that the new book ?

What did you think of it ?

There's plenty about local men and country to me in it and was thinking of getting it.

Its a very interesting book Neil. It's hard to believe how big the rabbit industry was. Conry must have spoken to hundreds of rabbit men throughout Ireland, fair play to him for recording this bit of history, its a bit repetitive in that a lot of the stories are similar, but there are a few gems. There wasn't a lot about my part of the Country East Limerick/North Tipperary but there's a huge amount about other places. Its some lump of a book for €30 over 500 pages hardback, you wouldn't read it cover to cover. There's only a few pages on hunting with dogs. The story of how myxomatosis was introduced is interesting and a bit sickening If you knew some of the men mentioned in the book you should definitely buy it.

You seam to know a lot about other people while hiding behind a pseudonym yourself

just type in rockenhart fox terriers and the web site comes.

just type in rockenharth fox terriers an it come up on the web site.theirs deerhounds on the site also.

And this is how you decided I don't work my dogs, I take it I don't know you then & you haven't got a drone following me around ????????

would it be fare to say that the dogs in ur yard would have at one time gone to crufts and ur kennels are all for show.

Only ever kept the DH for work, my father mainly showed the smooth's, I've worked a good few of them as did many others, there were a lot of men very happy with them

  8. Get a pup from Staying or Marathon lines if possible.

If you go see a litter get one of the smaller dogs or bitches.

    I'd prefere a bitch 56-64 lbs

    Or a dog 60-72 lbs

Any dog over 80lbs would prob struggle to turn.

Feed well and give freedom from a pup letting them see different types of land learning as they go and they will offer some fun.

As said they will have plenty drive and should tackle anything .

I don't think there are specific staying lines, a good stayer needs to be open class at 525/550/575, I gave this fella private sprint trial (Same box as 850) Shelbourne a few days before he won the marathon .01 off the tr, his sprint time would have won most open races, I laid it on at 8 & 9/1 as I reckoned Ballyregan Bob wouldn't have caught him he'd be so far ahead at the 3rd bend. If I was breeding lurchers from a Greyhound I'd use a bitch who was a consistent winner of lower grade distance races, some of them would keep going for a few km

  9. Recently was gifted a full kc registered fox terrier bitch due to her not being upto scratch for the show circuit.

Thought I'd take her on and see what this breed was made of for bushing etc.

Today she showed great promise and goes absolutely mad for bunnies, not cover shy what so ever and pushed a nice one out to my deer x pup which was snapped up after a couple of turns.

    Over the moon!!

Wire or Smooth any photos, very game breed, my father has smooths for the last 50 yrs
