Hi cheers. Can you tell me if its better to use a red filter on a torch for rats rather than a normal light?

Hi I live in the isle of man and have a 12 month old jack russell. I really want to take him ratting but have no idea what I need to do. If anyone has any tips or lives on the isle man that might be willing to let me tag along it would be much appreciated.
