There are certain things which define particular poachers. Some use the full moon or the moon approaching it, Each has a particular (familiar) route into a shoot and this will be related to location of pens and later knowledge of where most birds roost. Each will have their own way to poach, be it net air rifle/ other methods. Anyone using a shotgun or rifle - do not get personally involved - look for reg no's and call armed police.
It would help to deploy the odd trail cam (well camouflaged) and, most importantly do a few rounds at night ask a few friends and meet after to share info..
In one case I knew, a shotgun was found concealed in a hedge near a shoot. It looked rusted but was well oiled and carefully hidden. Another poacher I came across used the full moon only to move around on the shoot he came the same way on foot and used an air rifle.
Deer poachers and those who use running dogs to illegally pursue deer are the type to be aware of. The first group are armed and dangerous and have been known to shoot at people. Illegal dog men and the method they use to take deer cause most damage and not just to the deer. Then there are those in the travelling community who always go with 'support'.
If you have access to a drone with IR, flying these at night on routes determined in daylight and stored in the machine will help you place trail cams and 'police' your patch but try to adapt the lights.
In the end, the police will help if you provide them with info because those who poach usually have a record. Details of when, how, where will give them a greater opportunity of success .
Locked Gates, nail boards etc are all things which can be used.
What a load of shite!! You sound like an anti who’s been reading to much false news articles. I run dogs I don’t go out armed. In fact I’ve got all my permission from been caught poaching so definitely can’t be dangerous either. You get the odd bad apple in all walks of life don’t tar us all with the same brush.

I’ll be over in November and I’m into terrier work, lamping, coursing and ferreting. I’d say shooting but am a shit shot so leave it to the pros

No this is probably to much of a big ask but worth a try anyways. I’m having a trip away in Larne in a couple months time if there’s anyone from around that surrounding area willing to take me on a days hunting while I’m over that way will be very much appreciated

If you want to risk having your dog poisoned and chance of it dying then keep walking it in the park. If that was me I wouldn’t walk my dog there if someone paid me. Just not worth chancing better to be save then sorry springs to mind

Wouldn’t say easiest perm to get as a lot of farmers don’t like to admit they have a rat problem

You can't ask for much more than that, just a little tip, put some tape on your collar cap it stops grit/sand/ soil ect getting in and possibly stop it working
Definitely couldn’t I’m over the moon with how quick he’s picked it up. Thanks for that I’ll start using tape

If I had advertised the dog for £200, I would have had to answer umpteen private messages on here from gobshytes, then giving out my number to anyone and I mean anyone, asking me all sorts of questions, like why is it only £200 ? whether it would do the others?? what's it done, how's it bred, how many have I dug with it, have to have a trial to see it work etc etc... You missed the point, I said Guaranteed, my word is good, if the dog was a jacker I wouldn't be selling it. The dog's gone to a good home, he will get worked and I will get updates on it.. if my circumstances change I would gladly give £500 for any good dog.. each to their own.
You said guaranteed so your word is good and it just might be but from someone who does not know you your word guaranteed doesn’t mean much as there is 100s of lads out there that would say the same but yet there dogs shit. Not saying that’s you but you get the point I’m trying to make. As for money who cares how much it cost if it is doing the graft it’s worth it’s weight in gold. but you can’t sell a working dog without a trial. No trial to me makes me think that person is trying to pull the wool over my eyes because if it’s grafting and I mean grafting not just a couple of digs a season dog sed person should be more then willing to trial it out. I know where your coming from about messers and the constant messages it does your head in but that’s part and parcel of selling dogs theys days everyone wants to be a nosey c**t but don’t really want to buy. Am glad you’ve found the dog a new home hope it gets plenty work and you and man who bought it are happy atb ?

I would pay £500 or £1000 price is f**k all for a genuine working dog but would have to see the dog graft a few times before I’d part with my hard earned cash. That’s what pissed me off yesterday mans trying to sell a dog for £500 and not allowing a trial even if it was only £200 I’d still want a trial after all it’s my hard earned cash am handing over and wouldn’t like to think someone was trying to have me over selling me a jacker
