ahh right I was going by what another member told me when i asked whats the best age to start her off. They told me to start taking her out now
-
yep it was her very first encounter of an animal so big though so i think it un nerved her a bit lol

Haha never really seen myself owning a lurcher, probably because a friend of mine had a horribly underweight one and it put me off lol I live in buxton mate i use to think the same but you dont get a lot of bunnys with terriers,i bet ya on in the future also agree with lab about the bull bit, heres my little busher nice pooches mate
-
What age is the dog? she is 4 and a half months
-
Looks good for the rabbits but i'd get the bull thing sorted out pretty sharp, its NOT a staffy thing!!...... hehe i think she was more shocked than anything because she didnt notice the bull stood right behind her behind a gate. she turned round and the bull grumbled at her haha think it scared her to death cos she is only small lol

Took carly out for her very first rabbit session yesterday and as soon as we got into an area where rabbits usually are her nose was basically attached to the ground constantly lol she found a bit of rabbit hair stuck on barbed wire and she went ballistic trying to eat it sadly there were no rabbits to be seen and the local farmer had let his cows (and unusually large bull) roam and she REALLY wanted that bull. Probably a staffy thing lol. anyway, does her constant nose to the ground and alertness mean she might just be a good rabbit dog? cheers all

if her recall is good mate then get her out and about now in areas that hold rabbits and if its in her it will all come out in time just be patient and dont expect to much to soon, it really is that simple with rabbits ps what part of derbyshire you in?? might be able to help you out with a day or two I live in buxton mate I wasnt sure if it just came to the dog naturally or if they had to be trained to go for the rabbit. Im lucky enough to have allotments over the fields from me that are sometimes over run with rabbits. A friend of mine has whippets and ive also asked to go alon -
As the title suggests :)Whats the best way to get your dog started hunting rabbits? I have a 4 and a half month old staffy (yes I know, not the first choice for rabbit hunting lol) Im a beginner and would love to hear some tips and advice on getting her into the swing of things (what age to start training, how to get her interested and know what she should be doing ect ect) thanks all matt

Hey everyone, i'm matt from buxton derbyshire. My pooch Carly (pictured) is a 4 and a half month old staffy. I'm totally new to hunting with dogs (I usually hunt with a rifle) and im hoping to start with carly when she is a bit older. Is there a specific way to train a staffy to hunt rabbit? does it come naturally? as I said im totally new to hunting with a pooch so please forgive the stupid questions
