  1. Well, the woods i was in were next to crop fields on the same permission , and have been requested to clear any pidgeons i see. But as i said,i dont usually bother as i dont take them for food, or even dogfood, so i leave for the other fella and stick to the crows/rats. So no, i wasnt planning on taking it home for eating anyway.

As for ID'ing, there were other pidgeons about, just my luck to get the tagged one, and as i said in OP, it was partly behind a branch, but i still had a clear shot where needed. Only when i got close i seen the tag.

As for why i felt the need to tell everyone on here, did you miss the part where i was asking a question?

Can i ask why you wouldn't even take a woody home for yourself or your dog? There f*****g delicious!!!

So ive heard, but never tried. Not too long since i stopped being fussy with chicken, so one step at a time :tongue2:

  3. I race pigeons mate, it might just be a plain id ring i use then to know which youngbirds are bred from certain pairs.

If 1 of yours doesn't come back you know who to blame

    :whistling:

Alright, thanks for the answers. Was just curious if the tag meant anything diffrent/special. Seems not.

  4. hey, first off, i tried a search on here and looked up on google, but ive got a question i couldnt find answer to, but ill give the background first

I was out in woods for first time with my dog, when he spooked a pigeon on the ground, it didnt fly far and landed in a tree. It was a bit obscured by a branch, but i still had a clean enough shot, so i took it.

It was only as i got closer i realised the bugger was tagged. One white tag on its right leg, with some numbers on it. Ive never encountered a tag before, so i didnt look closely at the numbers, but from my searching, most racing/homing pigeons seem to have 2 tags, usually coloured.

I would go back and try and find it,as it seems the decent thing is to contact the owner if possible, but the ground is too thick with cover and the wood looks the same everywhere, so i very much doubt i would be able to.

Felt bad after :\ To make it worse i usually dont bother much with pigeons, just the crows and squirrels/rats im after, but the one time i do :icon_redface:

Im just wondering if one White tag means anything diffrent, or is it still just a racing/homing pigeon?

Bought one of these Week or 2 ago after my Deben Gl2 broke, Which was about £60 for torch and charger, Compared to that one which is 30 dollars, whatever that is, £22 ish.

Thats got no charger with it, but the ones with chargers are around same price.

Im not quite sure, but with the deben one i got 2 pieces of mounts that look like the one in ebay picture.

One that goes on the scope, and other bit that goes round the torch and they connect together.

Not sure if you get that looking at the picture.

There was a thread on here about the torches, but i cant find or see it.

  6. thanks for the advice mate, £20 sounds a real bargain never tried with a red filter yet

    No problem

    http://cgi.ebay.com/UltraFire-CREE-300Lumens-Tactical-Flashlight-Set-/180598273567?pt=US_Flashlights&hash=item2a0c7ef61f

Thats the one if your unlucky and need a new one :whistling:

No charger with it, but theres another with charger for about same price i think.

Just got email that its been dispatched today, 15 working days it reckons. Was hoping to have it bit sooner for over the holidays but oh well

  7. Glad to hear it got replaced but...I was using the exact same till recently.

When i first bought it, the On/off switch cap wasnt too clever, and then just stopped working completely after a couple of uses (not many). I thought fine, Its only the pressure switch ill be using anyway.

The pressure switch worked great for me, no problems at all like the previous Smk Ledray i had bought, dodgy wiring i think. I got that swapped for the GL2.

But, I went to use it few nights ago, and it wouldnt come on unless i wiggled the wire around a bit. I only got it on for a couple of secs then the wiggling wouldnt work. I took apart the pressure switch cap and had a look inside.

There were 2 wires, Red and black if remember right. They were tangled around each other. It seems that when i had been screwing the cap on and off to get batteries out etc, the cables were spinning round inside also, and eventually its just snapped them off of the bit they were melted on to.

I think maybe if you take care to spin the cable round on the outside while screwing the cap on it might not twist them on the inside. Maybe not, maybe its just a fault, as ive never really had the cable get tangled on the outside.

But on the brightness side its brilliant for the size of it. Just a bit dim with the red filter on i found.

Just waiting on my new Ultrafire cree torch coming from Hong Kong. £20 ish pound compared to the £60ish i paid for the Deben GL2 and chager.

  8. Just ordered a cree r2 led torch from ebay. Price diffrence between them and the Deben Ledrays is incredible. Especially considering my Deben GL2 broke yesterday after maybe 10 nights out with it.

Should of listened at the time when was told on here to go with some of the ebay torches :icon_redface: Figured at least if i went with a deben it should last, for the price of it anyway...

Anything else is getting bought on ebay now :notworthy:

Also, ive had a quick look around on ebay and found a Leupold mark 4 4-14x scope. For 68 dollars. Had a look at some other scopes and you can get some pretty good deals it seems.

Ive never bought scopes or anything fragile online before really, so im just wondering,

Is there a chance the scope would receive some knocks/damage etc by time it reaches me?

Edit- Meant to post this in the other thread about Cree torches

  9. Just wondering, Been looking at the air arms from local gunshop. Not been in yet, just had a look on their site.

    They have S410 £510, and S410F Classic Superlite. £535

Had a look around google etc but i cant seem to find any info that says what the "F" stands for?

They have an S510 also but due to the comments in here think id stick with a s410 instead, Thats if i ever get round to buying a pcp, Plenty of money, just a bit miserable :tongue2:

  10. The head Green keeper is a start

If you can talk to him he may give you thepermission or he may take it to the committie for discussion

Some may even asess you via means of either recomendations from other land owners or even a formal interview in front of a panel.

You certainly have nothing to loose and quite a lot to gain

    Phantom

    Thanks for that.

Might go round sometime too see them. Maybe after this snow lifts, if it does :wallbash:

    Thanks again :)

  11. Good thread, answered some of my own thoughts also.

Quick question to save making a new thread for it, just when i seen it mentioned here.

if I can find a farmer or Golf course willing to let me unleash my new air rifle then I don't have to prove to plod that the rabbits I am shooting were destroying crops or the nice smooth green at the twelfth hole,

I live quite near a golf course, and have been thinking about checking in to see if need any rabbits taken out.

Just wondering who i would speak to..? Is a posh place from what ive seen, So wouldnt want to mention to the wrong person and ruin the chances, so was thinking a groundskeeper type would be best bets, Do most golfcourses have a groundskeeper etc?

Sorry for the thread hijack, didnt want to make a new one.

  12. Thanks for the replys guys.

Hadnt looked at the for sale section too much before.

Had a look now, Skimmed through to about page 70 looking at hw100's for sale. All i can say is glad i posted here,Shop does seem very expensive for 2nd hand, Dont think ill be buying that then.

Will keep my eye on the section, some good deals, just mostly england it seems unfortuantly :\

Might stop looking completly now due to lack of time etc to actually use it anyway, but if i see a deal like below, Dont think i could resist :p

wor kid got a 2nd hand hw100 with scopes,, gunslip,,and a couple of tins of pellets for 350 ...

    atb gary

Thanks again, saved me a bit of money :)

  13. Hey,

If you read my last thread i've still been deciding on whether to go for a FX cyclone or Hw100.

Sent an email to gunshop asking what they had in stock and got this back.

We have a new HW100 sporter in .22 in stock or a mint condition hw100 sporter in .177 with a Nikko sterling nighteater scope , bipod , rifle sling and bag . the new rifle is £720.00 and the 2nd hand package is £800.00. we don’t have any cyclones in stock, however we have a Cutlass in .22 that we have on special offer at £975.00 this includes a hawke 4-16 x 50 eclipse Ir mildot scope , mounts a new air arms pump and a bag., this package should retail for over £1200.

Was thinking about going for the 2nd hand hw100. I looked at some basic prices for slings, bags, bipod and the scope and that package should probably cost around £950+ ?

The cutlas is just a bit too close and problably over the £1000 mark by time buy a bipod, although by time i get a pump for the hw100 it'd be around £930ish total anyway.

Just wondering whether the 2nd hand Hw100 for £800 is a good deal or not as still need to buy a handpump also.

Seems alright to me, just wanting some 2nd opinions :)

  14. Hey, Thanks for all the replys.

Seems Hw100 is the favourite :)

After Half'n'Halfs post i had a look at the cyclone which i had previously missed somehow.

Spent most of today reading reviews etc on it, and it seems the decision is now between FX Cyclone or Hw100, So thanks for that post also pianoman :)

Not in a rush to buy one, so got plenty of time to decide on which.

Will be keeping my eye on the local gunshops 2nd hand guns to see if either pop up.

    Thanks again

  15. Hey,

Over the last few weeks I've been thinking of buying a Pcp air rifle, thinking being the key word, not sure i will really.

I currently have a HW 97k which was my first and only rifle, Which is good and i'm happy with it, I just quite like the idea of having a multishot magazine and little recoil,if any.

Ive never tried a pcp before, so been doing a bit of reading around as to whats best etc.

Ive narrowed it down to either the FX Tx12 Whisper £619 or a Wierauch 100 £719

    http://www.fxairguns.com/product.asp?id=t12whisper

From reviews i've read, Both seem quite good guns, But im leaning towards the Whisper, Mainly for the looks, And partly because its a bit lighter and £100 cheaper :whistling: , Though they arent major concerns.

Just wondering if anyone on here has used the Whisper or heard of any bad faults with them etc, And your thoughts on Whisper vs HW 100?

Edit- Also undecided on .177 or .22, Thinking of going .177 for better accuracy and from what ive read if you hit in the correct place, Theres not alot of diffrence.

  16. Nice shooting

Went out myself last night. Place is usually covered in rabbits, hillsides around a quarry.

Only seen 2 out and about, Never even got a shot at them, Very lamp shy like you said.

Long walk and wet feet but at least i had a good view over Glasgow for the fireworks :)

  17. Glad you got sorted mate. Shame about the permission, but as a professional pest controller, I'd be interested to hear more of this "new poison" they've tried!

I never really heard him properly, sounded like he said something about 2nd or 1st generation. No idea, Didnt hear that part too well.

Hopefully find somewhere else though, gotta love blasting the rats :)

  18. Well, Took the smk back to the shop today.

Shop Guy had a look at it, it gave a few seconds of dim light, went out, then wouldnt come back on at all.

He tried new batteries in it, Same problem.

Said he would order me in the Deben Gl2 to replace it and knock the price down a bit,Ordered the charger while was there. Gonna go back on Friday probably to pick it up.

Was nice and easy, No fuss, Good shop :)

Unfortunately im just back from a trip to a chicken/duck/firework selling place (odd combo?), Had been told it was absolutely full of rats. Spoke to the guy there, Was told they had tried a new poison and gotten rid of them, So wont be needing the torch for that then :\

Thanks for the other torch recommendations though.

  19. Thanks for the replys.

    "

I've not seen the SMK lamp yet.

Regarding the Dimming and brightning of the torch, thats down to the batteries needing charging. When they go down the LEDs go very dim in a few seconds, leave it off for a few minutes then turn on again and it gets brighter for a few seconds.

    Smk TactLed

    http://www.huntingandmilitarystore.co.uk/tactled-flashlight-torch-for-scope-by-smk-2244-p.asp

The torch came with 2 brand new batteries non-chargeable types,Lucky if torch has been on constant for 30 mins, so unfortunately i think its just a dodgy torch :\

Thanks for the link to the ebay torch,Looking a likely choice.

Question about the pressure switch though. How sensitive is it? The smk one, my finger just brushed against it and it would go off,Plus putting a bit of double sided tape on it to stick it to the stock set it off. Just seemed too sensitive :|

Will take my torch back this week and hopefully get the money back, Hopefully get the new one, whichever i choose, delivered for next weekend.

  20. Hey,

Been reading these forums for last few weeks, some good reading, just signed up now. :)

First post is a long one, Skip to end for quick short question if want.

Anyway, Ive owned a Wierauch 97k for a few years now,was a present, but never really done too much with it.

Recently i've been doing a bit more shooting. The area i go to, Hillsides around a quarry/landfill are covered in Rabbit droppings. Seen a couple out during daytime also.

Waited till it was getting dark one night too see, and sure enough, couple of rabbits started coming out. Fox +darkness ruined that night though :\

So,I done a bit of reading and decided to try out lamping, Sounds like a good time.

I done a fair bit of reading on which lamp to buy, And decided to go with a Ledray Scope mounted torch.

    Narrowed it down to these-

    http://www.deben.com/gun-lights/tracer-ledray-tactical-400.html

Bit costly for what i had in mind i thought

    http://www.deben.com/gun-lights/tracer-ledray-gl4-gun-light.html

    http://www.deben.com/gun-lights/tracer-ledray-gl2-gun-light.html

Decided on the Gl2. From what ive read, Not much worse than the Gl4 and bit cheaper.

So, on Friday, i went to Gunstore near where i work. Asked if they had the Gl2 in stock. Was told they used too, but now sell SMK TactLed 100 meter beam instead, as they had compared them and SMK was brighter and cheaper.

I had a good look in the shop, seemed much the same, so i went for it. It was £38.

    Smk TactLED

    http://www.huntingandmilitarystore.co.uk/tactled-flashlight-torch-for-scope-by-smk-2244-p.asp

I got home, fitted it onto gun, then tried out the pressure switch. Very very very sensitive. So much so that i could wobble the cable about and it was going off. Just seemed too sensitive. Plus it kept staying on after i let go :\

Decided just to use the button switch instead, No big deal.

Took it out that night as a torch for walking dogs. Very bright, very happy.

Today, decided to have a look at the pressure switch again.Turned it on and off a few times, Switch still no good, torch still bright. Then I turned it on/off again, but this time the torch was really dimmed, not much good for reading books even.

I tried the button switch instead, Still very dim.Messed about with the batterys etc incase,Still very dim.

I had to leave it a while and go do something else. Came back anyway, messed about with batterys again. Turned it on, and back to full brightness it was again. I hadnt changed anything apart from take batterys out etc a few times.

So, about 7pm, Decided to go have a shot at the rabbits. I gave the torch an occasional check on the walk, still full brightness. After maybe 10 minutes walking (Live in countryside) checked again, Very dim :(

I took the batterys out again, put them back in, Nothing, No light at all.

So, annoyed, I walked back home, took the torch mount off my gun, repacked it all and will be taking it back to shop next week. Ive had a go at the batterys again, Managed to get it back to very dim light again.

Now, what i need is a recommendation.

I know you get what you pay for, and i have suffered from it it seems.

Should i go for the Ledray tactical 400 £129, Pricy but comes with charger etc, and hopefully is quite good quality,And dont mind paying that really. 170 meter beam just seems bit overkill for what im doing.

    Or

Go for the GL2 Ledray 90 meter beam , Which from what ive read is quite good, and hope is better quality than the smk one? £55 and need to buy charger, £25

Has anyone used these and can recommend either or have another suggestion?

Will mainly use for Rabbits or rats, Know a place with lots as has been recommended by someone, Just need to get round to going and seeing the owner.
