Really enjoyed the show was a 5 hour drive down and same up. Got my bitch sister to her new home were I have no doubt she will be as well looked after as her original owner. Lovely part of the country will be making this an annual pilgrimage but B and B next year for me. Great ti chat to Matt and Tom in the pub I hope you get bettter weather next year. Winning lurcher was a fine dog alrigh 2 years in a row. Loved the hounds too. Digging comp was great to see, Lurcher 330 got a really bad lot in his defense but he never quit that is the main thing well done lads. And well done to the winners.Hope to travel down in the winter to see follow the hounds.

  7. sunday 3rd of june.sure come on up skinny .any day out is good one .plenty in the hospital wished to be out for day :victory:

well to be honest the last time was badly attended and on top of that Matt was down right ignorant when I asked him a simple question, not the first time, also the racing was far too short at a timeit used to be a good long race. I dont think so this year but maybe next year if i hear good reports, perhaps this show needs some new organisers too, might save it fermanagh is always underepresented on the show front, I rememember my buddy and i travelled to tully castle one year to there was four lurchers at it and the terrier judge caused a bit of a row picking his own dogs or something like that.

  8. I started this poll for the 2010 show season can a moderator please lock this topic.

And can the people having a personal exchange do it via pm here and elsewhere to the rest of the world the irish lurcher and terrier community must seem like total nutcases and headbangers wiser locked up and eating grass. . I cant be bothered to design a poll for 2011 perhaps someone else might do it.

  10. The show was good, prices fair and burgers were great and the free buns at the end of the day were awesome. I think the judging was good and the show seemed to be mre geared toward the terriers perhaps next year the racing will be a bit longer and more structured into over and under 23" and a pup and terrier race with heats and a final. I have to agree the lurcher judge was very thorough and my lurcher was not neat condition to be placed at a show. I would have like to had a terrier to show as the competion was high and alot of dogs there that seem to be working. Well done on a good effort on a show that was worth a 2 and half hour drive.

  11. its not that £15 euro would break the bank but its the principle, its a rip off, drove to this show myself last year enjoyed the day but the extra fiver is a rip off and on that principle I wont be going chatted to a right few of my mates and they said the same.

What extra fiver? This show was €15 last year and this year we have a lot more new attractions in addition to what was there last year. Therefore we are bringing even more value for money. For families we have children going FREE. There are also a number of children and animal charities being supported? Either we care enough about country sports to put a little bit of revenue their way or we don't. I know which boat we are on!

I must have been half asleep to pay that. I wont be there it is a rip off.

  12. The All Ireland launch of the Great Game Fairs of Ireland took place at Stormont on Tuesday when 'Country really did come to Town'

In 34 years I have never had as wet a press reception ever to launch the Great Game Fairs of Ireland and specifically the Fairs' International Year of the Dog which will see the largest and most varied cannine event ever mounted in Ireland and one with a REAL INTERNATIONAL FLAVOUR. But conversely we have rarely had a more successful one as everyone coped with the weather outside and mixed with a genuine warmth inside.

Dog owners of all sorts were present to promote : The 24th Annual All ireland terrier & Lurcher Championships; The Redmills Five Nations International Lurcher Championships; the Redmills Master Mc Grath Challenge; the Chudleys InterClub Golden Retriever Test - 9 teams of goldens from all over the UK; the All Ireland Game Fair Retriever Handing Championships; The Feedwell International Retriever Tests; various spaniel tests; Horse and Hounds pedigree dog show; dog agility displays and show; dog mushing and a World Dog Training Record attempt.

Political support for the Fairs was given by Tourism Minster Arleene Foster; Finance Minister Designate Simon Hamilton,MLA; Francie Molloy,MLA; Jim Shannon MP; various Mayors, councillors and other politicians and tourist development officials. The ROI's Minister of Tourism Dr Leo Varadkar had business in the Dail and was unable to attend but sent a strong message of support. Lyall Plant Director of CAI and Des Crofton the Director of the NARGC were present and Des spoke on behalf of all of Ireland' country sports.

www.dogandcountry.tv were there to televise proceedings for a dog related programme covering the actual activities taking place at Shanes Castle; UTV televised some of it for the 7.30 show today week and BBC2 also gave it a little coverage.
